All depends on how much blood he got on him

If he was covered then yes drastic measures needed.

If he had overalls on and just specks of blood he may have just chucked them back in wardrobe when he got back or put them in the washer on a short cycle and slung them back in the wardrobe.

But as you say strong possibility only small amounts of blood would drop on him.

Who knows what may have been discovered if the investigation had took a turn much earlier on forensic wise in regards to his clothes. We can never say never.
