If a case is such that a verdict can be overturned and then reinstated time and again means there is such a level of doubt that the person or persons should be acquitted. That is my understanding of the law. But we are talking about Italian law of course which is archaic to say the least. Unstable I would call it at the very least.

just read up a bit more on this case - and there are a lot of similarities to JB .
Rudy only implicated the others in return for a (vastly )reduced sentence ( similar to JM)

The police did not break into Merediths room for hours ( despite the flat mates begging the to do so ) in fact one of the flat mates broke in.(similar to the scenes outside WHF)

A lot of the evidence was contaminated.

The police seemed to have made up their mind who was guilty from the beginning - then changed their minds

Amanda had been reported by her relatives at an early age as not very good in "social clues" in other words her behaviour could be strange sometimes ( like JB)

She does appear to have been convicted on her behaviour after the murder although there are no forensics ( Like JB)

The police were quite inept at the crime scene and interviewed without the correct legal representation ( no comment)

To be honest the one of the most scary things is that Rudy ( who had shown many indications that he was capable of the crime) could be out this year! despite the fact his DNA was all over the scene and inside the victim. How scary is that.

The officers who came to the crime scene initially were not real homocide detectives, they were postal police officers, trained to solve crimes involving postal services!  ::)

What I can't understand is the various British newspapers who support the reinstated murder conviction. How is it that such miscarriages of justice can continue like this? There clearely is no evidence to support her conviction. Are these supposedly law lords biased, or just plain stupid?

Yes Grahame, but don't forget that they'd got another version ready for if it had gone the other way ;D ;D. I guess their motto is "All options must be kept open"

clear proof of innocence has never stopped the mainstream media declaring people guilty.

Trouble is when rumours start - such as the blood on the knife from the boyfriends flat - then it is hard to dismiss them - although a bit like JBs case apparently this is a red herring - there was no blood on his knife - and the "evidence " about bloody footprints belonging to knox is also incorrect - but with all this in the public domain - the papers like to jump on the band waggon. There are things about her original statement that don't add up - but I can truly believe that the Italian police could have been truly scary - and when you don't know the language then it would be really easy to become confused. Considering she did not have a legal representative present for the first interviews then they should not have been made public- if they were inadmissible in court they should have not been released to the press. Some writer in the Mail particularly seem to have made up their minds - even though the courts ruled innocent on the second hearing - and now apparently ( the courts) are facing charges of breaking their own rules by releasing prejudicial statements. Cant get much worse really.

Raffaele is starting to blame Amanda for his conviction. It will be interesting what he will tell in the future - guess he is not pleased that Amanda sits in America, and he alone has to take the heat. I think he will say more soon.
