Hi Maggie :)
According to the book. Freddie was concerned and thought Sheila might be violent against him and others. When Freddie fetched the medication her mother in law was on her way out. Sheila had kicked her out. Freddie stayed the night and states that she would sit calm then go running round the house, thumping walls, herself and shouting that Freddie was the devil....He rang NB up and wanted him to come over, but NB said it was not possible and that he would come over first thing in the morning.  He episode lasted all night long....I was amazed that 3 doctors had seen her during the night....I only though one had been to see her....I am not sure if there is any
truth to that Maggie, I suspect there might be... :) :) :) :)
Yes I always found it a little strange Ralph left Sheila like that all night, if he usually
calmed her down   I can only assume he didnt  realise Sheila was in such a dangerous state. Maybe this explains why he thought he could control Sheila when she 'got hold of the gun' maybe hed never seen her at her worst. Should imagine Freddie would have run a mile if hed seen Sheila with a gun after his experiences that night in Maida Vale?

It wouldn't surprise me if JM hadn't fed poor Sheila some of her nastiness to inflame an already sick mind. Particularly about June and her religion. JM puts me in mind of having been a spiteful individual,,and I wouldn't have put anything past her.She had no option but to skoot to hell out of it.

Lookout, hello :) Rightly or wrongly, I get the impression that Julie probably wasn't on close terms with any of Jeremy's family and as Jeremy seemed not to be closely connected either, therefore not spending time with them, I think it reasonable to assume that Julie didn't either. There would be no reason to think that she would have spent time or socialzed with Sheila apart from Jeremy. I think you may be correct in your assessment of Julie as spiteful.

Maggie Hello :) If we look at this from another angle, Sheila had not been long out of hospital so Nevill could be forgiven for taking a breather and thinking that for the time being at least, she would be well enough to free him from "those" phonecalls. If I recall, "that" call came in August and isn't August the start of Harvest time? The busiest time in the farming calender, late nights, early mornings, grabbing every available second of daylight and he gets a call asking him to drive to London to sort his daughter out AGAIN. Maybe he'd had one of those days when everything had gone wrong and Sheila's problem was one ask too many.

Hi April,,,JM would certainly have picked up on Sheilas' illness, which would have given her another string to her bow in that because Jeremy wasn't as quick-thinking as she was,,that whatever was fed to Jeremy,it would sound convincing..Such as the fact that when charged,,it was said that Jeremy said that his sister was a " nutter ".Not his language,,but that which was fed to him. He was so brainwashed by JM,that he was beginning to speak her language and think her thoughts.
Her psyche would have been working overtime.

Freddie said that when NB turned up the next morning, Sheila became a different person...but this did lead to NB booking her into St Andrews.

This is also interesting. Sheila rang one of her friends and told her she was bored, so the friend invited her over, this is where Christine Heath (nurse from Notts) meets Sheila for the first time and she had been told what a stunning woman she was.  In the book, Wilkes says Christine noted that when Sheila turned up she was amazed to find that her makeup was all over the place and her hair was greasy and she appeared vacant, only talking about herself when asked.

The following day her friend invited Sheila Colin and twins to a party. Christine was also present and described Sheila as being totally different from the previous time she had seen her. Her makeup was lovely, her hair was beautiful and she was immaculately dressed. Christine also observed that she never once played with the children like the other mothers did and that she stayed very close to Colin all the time she was there.  Isn't it sad... :(
