When Jeremy was convicted in 1986 he was sentenced to life in prison with a recommendation that he serve at least 25 years. If he had been released after 25 years he would probably be out by now.
In 1994 the Home Secretary, Michael Howard, decided that he would not be released - ever.
Jeremy appealed against that decision in 2004 and lost.
I thought that the Home Secretary lost his power to increase sentences in 2002, or around then.
Have I misunderstood the law?
