Rang the police at 3.26am.

Told the police Nevill rang him 'around 3.10am'.

Was prepared to say he was half asleep & got Nevill's call time wrong and cover 40+ minutes. If the police said Nevill called him at 2.40am.

CAL is saying Bamber rang his AM. Then was not quick in ringing the police when he arrived back at Goldhanger.

This is possible.

He had an AM & rang Julie a long time before the police.

He probably simultaneously thought calls couldn't be tracked & he wouldn't be a suspect anyway.

He had rang his AM just in case which would only take a minute to do.

The other possibility is he knew or believed calls couldn't be tracked.

So made no call from WHF.

This explains the long gap between phoning Julie and the police. He correctly believed he had no time constraints.

I don't agree with CAL that Bamber showered & changed at WHF.

He had time to do this at Goldhanger. After calling Julie at or before 3.00am & before calling the police at 3.26am.

He even had the confidence to say Nevill called him at 'around 3.10am'. Which was at least 10 minutes after he had called Julie!

He would not mention the portable phone to Julie if he knew a landline phone would do the same job for him.

This is supported by the long gap between phoning Julie and the police. Knowing he had no time pressures.

Going by the long gap between phoning Julie & the police, his attitude towards his options with the landlines were -

Calls can't be tracked. But I will phone my AM anyway.

If the 'last number dialled' phone was available, he would have phoned his AM. Then cycled back at 100% if this phone displayed 'time of call'.

Or used this phone to answer his own call.
