Clearly not my opinion but patently obvious. The image where the barrel doesn't reach so far, is almost from a 'top down' perspective. As such, it doesn't lend itself to the actual position of the barrel being misinterpreted.
Whereas the second image, is not from the perspective of looking down the length of the barrel (which could arguably have given rise to an optical illusion) - but from alongside instead.
Clearly they were moving gun and bible around, trying to rectify whatever blunder had took place, by re-staging the scene. Perhaps they experienced difficulties in doing this and the rifle wouldn't lay as they wished.
No wonder members of TFG raised 'real concerns' about the positioning they were later shown at briefings. It was not the same scene that they had vacated - it was a scene that SOCO created.
