British student - Meredith Kercher - Perugia - Italy
« on: May 21, 2011, 02:16:PM »
I think a lot of people will have followed this case because there was certainly a media frenzy.  In the minds of many, 'Foxy Knoxy' became the name associated with a sly, intelligent, sexually voracious, young American woman....when it was actually the nick-name given to her as a child for her silky 'soccer' skills back in The States.  Here is the latest twist:

Have not looked into this case really.Do you think Knox was involved Rochford? Regarding the new evidence,if this man was a burglar who was disturbed by Meredith, then why was she found half naked? Definately think that it was a sex crime and nothing but a gut feeling telling me that Knox was involved.

Not sure Tyler.  I read a book about it called Darkness Descending which seemed to lay the blame on the three people who were found guilty.  But books are dangerous I think sometimes.  It's someone's opinion.  We'll see what happens with this Mafia bloke's testimony that it was his 'on the run' brother who killed Meredith.  Apparently he applied two years ago for the right to give testimony in this case.  I'm not sure how the other two prison inmates fit in to the equation.  One is a convicted child killer and the other is some kind of informant who had to give his testimony without having his ID revealed.

Pinched from Quietlife...

Quote
What I do like about the Italian system is that the jury have to explain their decision in what's called a motivations report. Well, it is written by a judge, so there is obviously the allegation that the judge writes it to suit the decision made, but it is a comprehensive document and one can (supposedly) see how the jury came to its conclusion and what weight it gave to what. The Knox/Sollecito report is here http://www.perugiamurderfile.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=259 (that's a 'guilty' forum but is where I found the report).

I am on the fence with this case because it is difficult to find impartial resources as the case is very imotive - basically most of the USA think she is guilty and most of Europe think she isn't and many if not most journalists and authors of books act accordingly and choose a side. A lot of things don't add up for me though, so I can't say that I think that they are innocent, but then again, the whole drug fuelled sex orgy scenario doesn't fit in for me either, as quite a few other things don't.

Gawd, one could discuss that case for decades.

Can I just correct the obvious error in my post!  :-[  I typed it the wrong way round. Most of the USA think she's innocent of course, whereas most of Europe think she's guilty. Of course there are no scientific polls on this but that is the general consensus on those who have an opinion - of course probably the majority don't actually express their opinion, so an obvious caveat applies to what I said.

I was following the appeal quite avidly but the media circus surrounding this case in recent days has become quite frankly obscene (irrespective of whether one believes that the appeal should succeed or not), so I have kept away. I'll wait for the motivations report to see how comfortable I am with the outcome. As the US have been so critical of the Italian legal system, I do hope they will maybe reflect for a moment on their own.

I am with you there nugnug. Also, who would know from the reporting that she had a co defendant in the proceedings?! Has he been mentioned? What I dislike is that in much of the reporting, the actual evidence is a side issue, with many of the US networks treating this like some kind of soap opera. We only have to wait until tomorrow for the result but whatever it is, can we be really confident that the process was untainted by all this sh*t? The US seems in no rush to judge the decisions of its own system, yet they are queueing up to cry fowl here. I have been surprised by what has been allowed in evidence in this case but the motivations report from the original case is hundreds of pages, so they had to justify their findings, as will be the case with the appeal.
