I'm sure that if I needed help at whatever unearthly hour,I'd feel reassured at hearing a siren indicating that it wasn't far away,whatever the emergency, as minutes waiting can feel/seem like hours in certain situations.

At WHF it WAS hours !!

A firearms incident happened on the holiday park where I worked, 6 police vehicles arrived with firearms officers, not one had a siren or flashing light going?  Bews states they only passed one other vehicle en route other than Bamber, it is left to the drivers discretion at the time if lights and siren are needed, maybe they thought that it would spook someone with a gun into taking action and take pop shots of them arriving?
