"disinterested observer may conclude that some evidence had been manipulated to construct a case against Susan May". He added that a "number of police witnesses may have adjusted their evidence to fit a desired rather than valid outcome".

Last year, the Guardian traced a witness who said police tried to persuade him to lie in order to "eliminate" a red Ford Fiesta car, seen at the murder scene the night Hilda Marchbank was killed.

Police failed to disclose this evidence to the defence team and hid the fact they considered a local man a "good suspect" for the murder, after the car's sighting and an anonymous phone call naming him as the killer.

Scipio should read this and then he might understand where we are coming from!

Nobody on this planet should have to endure that.  The CCRC is not fit for purpose, although saying that the CCRC have helped in some cases.  Why does it take so long?  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

One reason is guilty people, claiming innocence and clogging up the system.

Maggie
Jeremy and Susan were good friends and wrote to each
She would not have been close to Jeremy if she thought he was responsible for the murders
She handled her situation so well

I remember he wrote about her on his blog when she died. If the article is true it's really unforgiveable.

They likely were, but not everyone who uses the CCRC is innocent. There are no guilty men/women in prison Jan.  ;D

Surely they are all guilty Mat in the eyes of the law. Susan May spent the last 12 years of her life in jail for a murder she was found guilty of. Two appeals later and she was still incarcerated. Sadly she died before the 3rd appeal could be examined. This is concerning not only for the flawed system, but for those who are fighting for justice, but that justice never comes.  The new evidence in Susan May's case is clear enough to have her sentence overturned, but sadly her fight was lost the day she died. No one should have to wait all those years Mat, no one. Hopefully, her family will continue the fight.

The system is in dyer need of some proper management, for its not fit for purpose. I have worked in government for last 10 years and due to cuts in-house the service that is on offer is very bad and believe you me it will get worse. Everything is processed mapped to speed up the process but what that fails to recognize is that those it is meant to serve are those that are suffering by it.  IMO  :)

It does say one of her  appeals took 10 years - Well if that does not show that something is wrong with the system then I don't know what does.. That is ridiculous.

Does anyone know how many appeals the CCRC is handling at the moment?

If there was ever a person I felt sorry for,it was Susan May. How cruel.

Read David Jessells' interesting take on the CCRC !! What a bloody shambles.

Some interesting comments at bottom .

What interesting comments at the bottom Jon?

Like this one from Wullie Beck?

"Experts have now concluded there was no evidence of blood in the furrows showing Susan May never murdered her Aunt Hilda.
What is worse for me is the fact CCRC used a disgraced expert in the Mckie case not to investigate the fingerprint evidence in Sue’s case.
Peter Swann confirmed it was her fingerprint in her Aunts blood.
Experts now conclude there is no blood.
Another disturbing aspect of Susan May’s case for me is the fact there was never any tests done to ascertain if there was blood let alone Hilda Marchbank’s blood.
No Blood-No Case To Answer.
CCRC were warned about Peter Swann by myself bvut they chose to ignore my complaints re Fingerprint Enquiry Scotland and continued to Use Peter Swann as a credible expert"

No disrespect toward Susan May,

but Peter Swan was also the fingerprint experts in the case I'm familiar with - so that won't help Wullie Beck's argument imo....
