A spare key to the back door was always kept in the coalshed---------it was still in the coalshed and would have saved the raid team from bashing the door down. So there was an easy way in and out.

Wonder why Jeremy didn´t tell the police about that key???

I think the door the police used had a mortice lock fitted, with the key left in the lock on the inside, making it obvious that Jeremy didn't leave via that door. Anyway, he couldn't get to it and leave the internal kitchen door blocked.

Think the backdoor had been changed shortly before the murders lookout and the key in the coal shed was for the old door.  I believe there were no spare keys for the new backdoor which is why the younger generation tended to climb through the window if there was no one home. :)

Ah, OK, sorry, didn´t see your post.  :)

Maggie explained it - it was a key for an older door and didn´t work in the new one.

Hi Alias, think the door issue was a bit confusing, Jeremy tried to explain it in a statement. There was the old door, the old new door and the new door which caused quite a bit of confusion and then of course after the police broke in there was an even newer new door........  that door had various keys, one was offered to Jeremy and given to AE by the police, think Jean Boutell, secretary had one as well.

In actual fact it was Jean Boutell who, according to Wilkes, had mentioned about the back door key being kept in the coalshed.

Am pretty sure Jean Boutell was talking about a key to the older door, Lookout.  Remember talking to Patti about the confusion over the doors and when Jeremy talked about it during interviews with the police they all got a bit confused because of the various old and new doors!! ;D

Yes the new door was the door that the raid team broke to gain entry to the house. The another new door was fitted after that.

3 doors were discussed in the confused interview with Jeremy. Jeremy knew what he was talking about but got poor Jones in a tis was....I had to read it many times over and over to get the gist of which door had keys and which did not.

It was standard practice for the keys to be left in the coalshed...but, when the new door was fitted it was common practice to gain entry through the windows because there were no surplus keys for the new door....I think this is what Jeremy meant.  ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
