Did Jeremy Make a Freudian Slip?

They say every criminal makes at least one mistake which gives them away. It may be subtle and on the face of it, may seem unimportant until you think about it. The following excerpt from one of Ann Eaton's statements has bugged me since first reading it - a perfectly innocent comment about his father's wallet doesn't seem too sinister on the surface. However, how did Jeremy know how much was in the wallet? Is it likely that Neville would broadcast the contents of his wallet? Such things are surely not discussed - but Jeremy knew how much was in the wallet and the other contents - as though he had recently looked inside it.   

Did he count it after killing five people, leaving it behind to claim later? And in his haste to find it, did he make a Freudian slip?

Hi Caroline, I believe Basil Cock took the wallet for safe keeping, do we know for certain that Jeremy quoted the correct amount. Have you got the page number where AE mentions this incident in her statement save me slogging through her whole statement,  please.

Page 53 in the 16.09.85 statement. She mentions it in another statement (which I will dig out later) in which she states she gave the wallet to her father. The contents must have been correct because she doesn't deny the amount.

He may have just hazarded a guess from having been paid previously and noticed a goodly amount of notes plus the credit cards.  I don't detect anything suspicious.Jeremy reported the " lost " wallet to the police anyway,,but like everything else--------it fell on deaf ears. I just think it's another ploy to drop Jeremy in it by AE mentioning it in the first place.

But it doesn't tell us how he knew the exact amount of money which was in it. The credit cards might have been easier to know about.

Ann Eaton didn't make a big thing about him knowing how much was in the wallet, she was more concerned that he didn't find out she had given it to her father. Plus, I think it unlikely that he would have been paid on a Tuesday. Also he called 'Jones' to complain about not being able to find it - he was quite angry and this is usually when we make these kind of slips.

The second key intrigues me. If Jeremy had a key to the new back door. Why then did he feel it necessary to break in being observed by the cops?

He did say the correct amount and she mentioned it BUT was more concerned about him finding out she took it. You can't know how much someone has simply by looking in their wallet unless you're Rainman? Perhaps the fact that he did get it right meant that AE didn't have to question it so she didn't see the significance?

It's conceivable that Nevill mentioned it, which isn't the same as "broadcasting" it.
