A pity Jeremy turned his answering machine off. The only person I have ever known to have ever done this.

A saved message from Neville would have cleared Jeremy.

You don't know him and I suspect turning off te machine isn't that uncommon!

Jeremy must have good ears. Being able to hear the phone & answer before the caller gives up when vaccuming, in the shower, in the garden, playing music & sleeping.

Jeremy would have been fast asleep when the phone rang !
Being young,,he wouldn't have known about the significance of a call at that time of the morning, until perhaps another 20 years hence. Most of us probably sadly know that it won't be good news,no matter what. What I'm saying is,that he was ill-prepared for such a call, whereas, when you're in your 40's,you have an inkling, especially if a family member has been,or is ill.

The answer machine - AGAIN.

I don't know if it was switched off or not - but I can assure you that some people turn them off when they are at home and turn it on when they are out .

Suprisingly human beings are all different and all do different things - it is a fact of life.

That's right,nugs. It's something you leave switched on when you're out,usually.

Why turn it off ? Just leave it on 24/7 in case he does not hear it or is on his sun bed, watching TV etc and does not want to speak.

Everyone else I knew did. All answering services are 24/7 now. Common sense.

It is a curious coincidence that Neville did not leave a message.

No time for long conversations when your family are being slaughtered. Another non-starter !
By the way,,it was years later, 2002, when Nevilles' call was found, anyway. But it was,and it should have been seen as proof of Jeremys' innocence then, that his father did indeed ring him,,so why do you think it wasn't ?
Nevilles' phone-call was known,,but never shown to the jury, even though it had been entered at the trial. Why ?

Jeremy woke up from sleeping like a log. Realised the phone was ringing. Decided to answer it. Got downstairs & answered it. Before the answer machine came on.

Get real.

I thought you said it was switched off?

Lots of curious coincidences results in a mountain of circumstancial evidence.

Not good.

It had to be switched off. Jeremy would not have reached it in time otherwise. He was sleeping like a log.

Hang on. He phoned Julie at 3am.
