So the impression that the media gave that his motive was to inherit WHF and land - sell it and then live it up on the proceeds was not quite the truth then was it?

And undoubtedly, the media included in the £4,800 the value of the house which was never going to be Jeremy's to sell.

Rather looks like it, doesn't it Nugs. I can't imagine, that at 24, he wouldn't have been aware of it.

I think you'll find he did.
Well he gave them a limited choice, the telephone call of Ralph to Jeremy according to him narrowed down the choice somewhat.

so the fact the jury were told he had a motive could possbly be grounds for appeal.

I think there was some land that belonged to the bambers because I remember Anne Eaton mentioning it in her statement. there was a statement of finances done - but also remember reading that some debts were not included? I don't think we can assume that the facts were not presented as I would have thought the financial statement and what he would gain  would have been bought up in court at some point.

I can't imagine that the amount of inheritence quoted would include the WHF building?

I have just checked the financial statement and the total of the two estates excluding WHF was still about £440000. Which was a lot of money in those days . They did own other farms and the caravan business and other properties. I did read that RNB was a very forward thinking and innovative farmer .And a lot of the finances were put into Junes name which was probably for tax purposes. So it seems  the sum is right but the fact that WHF was not included has been lost in the rumours and stories that fly around.

Personally, I never thought it was included. Rumors and myths are generally born out of scenarios, that's why I hate scenario's.

true - probably read it in one of Adams- but must admit I was under the impression the farm belonged to the family. But they were very well off without it apparently. My dad was one of the poor farmers. They obviously were not.

Totally agree Caroline, myths, rumours, circumstantial evidence .... only facts speak the truth imo.

I agree, people read scenario's and some of it is bound to stick and before long, people think it's a fact and it gets repeated. Then it's difficult to convince people that it's a myth. Someone mentioned the  panic button JUST a few days ago!!  ;D ;D ;D :o ;D ;D

maybe there should be a sticky thread with myths and rumours. Then you could just refer posters to it.

Although I know what Jeremy said about the dog - if I  see it posted out of context again I think I might lose my cool 8)
