The older generation in Essex and certainly in Maldon at least was keep yourself to yourself and don't say anything unless you're asked. But at the same time they want to know everybody else's business.
I can believe that.  ;D ;D

I have sometimes been told someone's died only to see them alive and kicking later, typical of this one horse town  :'( :'(

If one dog barks it sets off all the others; if Bruce barked on hearing the bike coming, which I'm sure he would, I would be very surprised if Crispy didn't alert Ralph.

I agree.  My dog Sam is a Springer Spaniel and believe it or not he knows when my son is coming round the corner in the car he is very alert even before he parks up....

While I was chatting to NN on the phone Tuesday night he knew another dog had passed my house and set off barking...So I would say dogs are very alert indeed.... :) :) :) :)

Hi lebaleb  quite right Bruce would hear anyone approaching during the early hours especially on a bone shaker of a bike and he would bark that in turn would set Crispy off and one of the family would have been alerted.  Now if the perpetrator of the murders lived within the farm house Crispy would have remained quiet.  Unless a dog is trained as a gun dog most dogs are terrified of gunshots and thunder and they hide anywhere they can under beds etc.

Morning Susan :)

Poor Crispy must have been frightened and yes they are frightened of thunder....My other dog was and she used to shake and whine.....

Here is a pencil drawing of my Sam....I love him to bits...

Morning Patti

dogs have much more sensitive hearing than humans even the shape of their ears enables them to use them like radar and pick up sounds from different locations they are terrified of loud noises because they are much louder to them than us.  Well unless your ears are different than mine your Sam will hear much more than you and could probably hear N/N on the phone ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sometimes Susan he hears the alarm call of the Black Bird and he pines to get out, he senses that there might be a bird on the ground and sadly he would grab it, so I don't let him out. Its instinct in them, but I love my birds so would never allow that to happen....I have seen him chase them, he is a NUTTA sometimes....lol   ;D  ;D ;D ;D ;D
