Hi Caroline
The only two Southeners who refer to a 'book' as 'buk' are the Queen and Hyacinth Bucket pronounced "Bouquet". But in every Southener lurks a little Hyacinth, even if only in the little finger one raises pependicular when sipping, usually Earl Grey, from a cup. Of course in the North you have your big mugs of Yorkshire tea to slurp from which double up as a face wash to remove all the grime which continues to float in the atmosphere from the once successful industrial towns/coal mines.
The North has three redeeming qualities:
Landscape/areas of natural beauty
Manchester United Football Club
The Smiths/Morrisey

Are mugs just a northern thing? Are you saying you use the 'special china' 24/7? Just bought a new mug actually (ebay - oh how I LOVE ebay!!) guess where it came from? Essex!! Someone down their is betraying their roots!! However, it is a bone china mug!!
I can think of one redeeming quality about the south - it's over 200 miles away!!

- JUST JOKING!!
