Whilst it would be churlish not to grant an 11 year old who had witnessed her prostitute mother giving and receiving acts of corporal punishment in her role as prostitute a second chance,I have my doubts that Mary Bell is today the model citizen you allege. Those that cared for her in the children's institution she was sent to tell a different tale of dead pets, vandalism and uncooperativeness with authority. The £50,000 she was given for colluding with a book on her crimes with Gitta Sereny, whom I also accuse of profiting from murder, was a disgrace. She lives in anonymity on the south coast of England whilst the families of the two boys she killed in 1968 have to pick up the pieces of what she did.

Hi Steve. Hand on heart I do not know that. Alls I heard is that she was according to her rehabilitation program.  She is a mother and grandmother now.  I know little about the profits from a book, although I do believe that she gained nothing in the end....I am not 100% on that...  :) :) :) :)

Hi maggie, so do I, we are on the same wave length.

The other thing about what curiousessex said was that Jeremy had said he hadn't got a clue about her illness, yet he called her a nutter..   I think this is misinterpreted, in the way that he knew she was ill, but did not thoroughly research her illness to point where he fully understood it.  I don't know about you maggie, but I still think mental illness is not fully understood by many... :-\ :-\ :-\

Patti, in 1985 terms such as "nutter", "loony", "mental", "half wit", "screw loose", "lunatic" were bandied about in everyday speak, along with all those ghastly racial words that are no longer acceptable. People described thus were incarcerated in "mad houses", "nut houses", "loony bins"and "lunatic asylums" These degrading descriptions were thrown around casually without any real knowledge of what they meant or how cruel and insulting they were. IMO, most of it was out of fear and ignorance. The funnier they made to sound, the less it would touch them.

Its certainly compelling, moving and thought provoking Patti.
I personally find it very hard to believe that Jeremy Bamber....proven sane and not in any way a psychopath could write about his family in such a way if he had killed them in cold blood.  imo

I think Curious is suggesting that other evidence of guilt may yet come to light?  And that if it did, where would that leave any assessment of Jeremy, given the tone and content of his writing projects?

Question is, what might Curious be referring to?

I would be less than honest if I said that there have been times when the thought HASN'T occured to me, but like much else in life it can only be coped with time appropriate.

I didn't know how to read it.  Do you mean that you have thought that more evidence of guilt might become available?

No Roch, it was more about how I would deal with it if, God forbid, concrete proof of guilt was found. I was thinking about how totally devasted many of us would feel.

Let's hope Curious doesn't make us look like a bunch of nanas.

Do you think she had something particular in mind or was just putting into words what has also crossed my mind and no doubt others as well.  For myself it's a healthy wondering which sits side by side with my belief in Jeremy Bamber's innocence.  I have never met Jeremy, I have read statements etc and formed my own opinion but a modicum of doubt is surely healthy.
It's different for Mike who has lived closely with Jeremy over months, he had the opportunity to form opinions about Jeremy's personality and mind set that we haven't had. imo
