Used to be a sailor(ess) lookout and that's quite true!
Empty vessels always make the most noise,Caroline.
That's a familiar expression from my youth Lookout!!
Maggie,a lot of those expressions ring true as well. My youth too. ( many moons ago )
So many of our sayings were associated with seafareing lookout
Yes Maggie,,it must have been an old salt who devised them.
i feel a Spancil Hill moment coming on.
Love that by The Dubliners Mertol.
Didn't they do one about a barrel of bricks, sick note or something, I found that hilarious as a kid.
Don't think I could take that Mertol...one step too far for me
Just looked it up Hartley, it was called Paddy's Sick Note. Don't know it but I prefer their dreary nostalgic ballads myself...there's no accounting for taste
Hi Steve_ukRe your 3rd para above re the tactile nature and feeling of benevolence in the family I assume you are not referring to JM's step father who was apparently abusive towards her?Apolgies for dragging out old posts but I'm a bit slow in keeping up .
