I was about 14 at the time.

A friend and I often visited 'Saxaphone Jones'.......from the Gary Glitter Band.  Jones was a nice, decent man whom we had known for years.

My friend and I were offered to go see The Glitter Band when they played in Liverpool. My friend went, I was not allowed to go.

I saw her the next day.

She was invited to go with Glitter back to his room.  This she did.  She was only about 14 too......and a virgin.   When we spoke she told me she could not remember much at all about the evening.  This is late 70's.   At fourteen years of age she tried to explain to me how she felt she must have been drugged......and during this 'comatoze state', she was raped!!

Of course, I did not believe her for one second.  She often flirted and was one for seeking attention.......

Some years ago Glitters name became front page news, for the WRONG reasons.....I distinctly recall our conversation......and how she had tried again to have me believe her.  Her parents also asked me about it........Suzie was also known for lying.......I tried to assure her parents she was once again lying, for attention!!

How wrong I was........and how I remember her every time another paedo is exposed, cos I let her down.

I've often wondered if she were ever able to report it......

Due to milk teeth at various stages, I used to call him Jimmy Saddle.  It does seem astounding that he successfully brushed aside concerns.  Does anyone else wonder if his charity work was his own twisted mechanism of 'balancing' the good and evil in him self?

I think so, Roch. There is talk of Necrophillia too, he used to wheel corpses to the Morgue in the LGI.

I agree Roch ... I'm appalled at what is coming out about this man now but I'm even more appalled at the amount of people who knew what was going on yet did NOTHING!!! ... except turn their back on the victims when they needed them most!!

Necrophillia seems to be a rumour around him.  There may not be any truth in it.  It's certainly a pretty heavy pastime  :o

Annie, perhaps one of the reasons that nothing was done, is because until now, when everybody knows, back then, each individual who knew, probably thought it was an isolated incident which couldn't be proved and didn't want their own name dragged though mud for having bought into disrepute a "sainted" celebrity whose philanthropy was renown. If they had known that they were not alone with this terrible knowledge and would have been supported by many others with the same knowledge, maybe it would have come to light sooner.

As of last week saville collectables were fetching crazy prices on ebay , why is beyond me , i think like him back then had more clout over tv bosses because ratings wars dont mean much today Sky and cable killed that , this is pre channel 4 era, his charity work airbrushed anything else, yet for the likes of Bob Monkhouse , not everyones cup of tea back then also did so much for charity and ive never heard anything bad about him, exept in savills case he has no end of his work as he has gone for him his death was a blessing it seems, as to andreas point at L.G.I. i bet they are trying to forget he ever was there at all,

I'm beginning to wonder if JS was actually telling the truth when he told Louis Theroux that he'd told a policeman that if charges were bought against him he'd take down with him half the inhabitants of the police station.

My partner made the same point this afternoon. Was the charity work some kind of karma?

Morning Roch/vidvic

I think Saville's charity work enabled him to get away with his evil deeds I don't think the two were connected at the onset. I honestly don't think he was of the opinion that the charity work compensated for his evil ways as he would not see his ways as evil just a desire.  Hope I am making sense .

Maybe it was both. Re the charities & hospitals, maybe he got some kind of karmic reassurance for his own peace of mind while also gaining access to his victims.  Then again, he doesn't strike me as somebody who was in turmoil.  So Susan, you could be right.

He probably thought himself to be such an amazingly good person that his victims were lucky to be chosen by him.
