Jeremy had long since desisted from regarding the adopted son as his pride and joy. He had become wary, fearful, as he told farm secretary Barbara Wilson: "I must never turn my back on that young man." Additionally the shooting season was approaching, and "accidents do happen." Unable to confide in his sick spouse he turned to farm friend John Seward as confidant, who inquired why he just didn't throw the man out?

"June wouldn't let me", came the pitiful reply.

Having said that he would have unconditionally loved Jeremy Bamber.

It must have hurt.

It's not necessarily the case with children, especially if they are divergent in some way and don't live up to expectations.

What were the expectations?

He was on the farm with him.

Shelia caused them much more problems.

If he ever once thought that his biological son wouldn't have given him these problems, it negates unconditional love. I don't doubt that such thoughts would have caused him to feel guilt.

It wasnt a waif adopted from the street at the age of 15.

He went to them at six months, he had the middle name of Nevill. Pride and joy, Shelia references herself that she felt Jeremy was Nevills favorite even though he cared deeply about her and they had a good relationship.

It would have stung.

Many years ago in LL I can recollect Jeremy speaking about Nevill to me. In fact if I recall correctly it's the only member of his family he mentioned.

The bond was there at some stage.

I could imagine it was at some stage ILB, I’ve seen a similar thing happen though (not with murder) when the bond starts to become damaged, and it was exactly similar to what we’re seeing here, it’s starts to fester through inheritance and who gets what.

Undoubtedly he poured all his hopes for the future of the farm into JB. Such would have made the sting all the more sharp as he realized his hopes may not be realized.

Hence the provision in the will that Jeremy had to persist at farming. In retrospect instead of being clever he was signing his own death warrant.

In all aspects of the case I have never seen one person say a negative thing about Nevill Bamber.

It had probably been brewing for years Hardy.

He had a difficult background given up, natural parents went on to have two children and stayed together, imprisoned from many respects from a young age with boarding school, a lot to live up to etc.

Everyone looks at the case of the greedy son but it's probably much deeper but it's all locked in one man's head either way

I might be wrong, but years back it was the son who inherited the estate and the daughter probably got shares from it?  That was starting to change though, traditions like this were becoming outdated.  Take, Bamber, he was being made to work for his share, Sheila was technically freeloading, this would start to eat into him, especially when the twins arrived and Mum and Dad was growing fond of them.  Bamber, knew, if he started to drift from the farming life, he would lose his claim, whereas it didn’t matter with Sheila.  I could say a lot and the similarities, but I don’t know who reads these forums and its close to what we’re discussing.

I don’t think he’d set his heart on farming life forever,  and after the murders there never seemed to be any interest in the farming side, it was all about the good life, which I don’t blame him, but I think his true colours were starting to show.

I dont think he was set on any particular csreer path. And coming from a driven family with wealth it created friction.

I think a lot of it was personal anger bubbling under the surface brewing for a long time.

Would be interested to find out on how on a daily basis Nevill interacted with JB, whether he was gregarious and friendly or disdainful.

Ditto June.

We rely on friends and relatives.
