The last thing he could do would be to burn them in the Aga. A) the aperture wasn't large enough. B) the flame would have been extinguished. Nothing to stop him taking them home and putting them in his own washing machine, though. A perfectly normal thing to do after a day's wear at harvest time.
True Jane, but remember he was on the minutes at Bourtree Cottage, so let's say he puts the murder clothes in the washing machine and starts the cycle, he then telephones police then Julie (take your pick as to the order of the calls),  he had to meet police at White House Farm, then after a period of hours he was accompanied back to Bourtree by DS Jones and DS Clark. The former is beginning to be suspicious at this point. There's no time to hang out the washing or place clothes in the tumble drier.

Did washing machines in 1985 have a quick cycle option?

If so they could be washed while he was at Goldhanger. Between around 3am & 3.36am.

How else would she get from Osea to Goldhanger in order to reach D'Arcy from Goldhanger?

Osea is a holiday park she mentions.

She means she knows Bambers route is populated.

She most probably knows goldhanger and darcy intimately and the sea wall area.

I think De Ath needs to clarify for herself.

I don't believe he would have to tumble dry the clothes.

A washing machine gives them a spin to ensure they are not dripping wet.

He would just hang them up in his wardrobe where they would dry.

Risky to have murder garb lying in situ, with Stan Jones poking around listening behind doors and a curious Ann Eaton and others crowded into a small space.

Nah not really at all, especially if it had already been washed.

At that point he was a bereaved relative.

We all have washing machines. Normal household chore.

They may have just sat in the washing machine.

They probably weren't even heavily bloodstained. May not have had any blood on him.

He probably wore overalls, he will have had lots of pairs due to his work.

He probably only washed them due to his fear of forensic evidence which would have been limited

Believe she lives in East London.

She stayed at a caravan park sometimes. Five miles away from Bamber's route.

No reason why she would have ever visited it. Espescially at 2am.

You had your chance to prove there were 2am BBQ's. But always knew there wasn't.

It doesn't always remove stains, though, especially blood. I wonder if he factored in not getting blood on his person: twins shot as they slept, no resistance, parents shot in bed from a distance, Sheila led by the hand like a lamb to the slaughter. The only slip was Nevill: how did Jeremy think his father would react? We are told "the old man put up a good fight for his age", no feeling, no remorse, as he related these details to Julie. He may not have worn overalls after all.

I would hang them up after the wash finished. Let them dry.

Will only take a minute to do.

But it's not on the murder route. Isn't that the point people are making here?

A machine wash would have been sufficient in 1985.

He had a month to dispose of them later if he wished.

Doubt they had much blood on them.

The clothes he was wearing when he went to meet the police may have been the ones he did the murder in. Although he may have put an extra jumper on.

He could simply but a boiler suit over his clothes which he would have with his farm work. Once he got home. Took it off and chucked in back in the wardrobe. Washed it later whenever.
