I didn't meet him until 1993 in jail, it's up to his relatives or friends of that time era to agree or disagree with what he is saying for corroboration or otherwise.

How can he say cycling it is 'laughable' if he has never been there?

Appreciate he has to say these things. A pity his defence did not say them.

Well, that's not true for a start. June used to send Sheila round to char for Ann Eaton. Sheila asked her to take a photograph to send to her birth mother, only a few months before the massacre.

Not sure how serious Julie was about cycling from Goldhanger to Malden. As 4.6 miles is a fair old poke. She didn't look the fittest.

However she testified she mentioned once about having a bike for that reason . A year earlier. Seems it was never mentioned again.

Plus, according to where her destination is, there's a fair old hill to negotiate. No one in their right mind would choose to cycle it. I suspect she was going to Heybridge which is the Goldhanger side of Maldon.

When did June send SC to char for AE. Since she did not drive and was based in London how could she do this with 6 year old twins. She married Colin aged 20.  She fell pregnant to him for her first child when seventeen so JB's recollection seems to be a reliable suggestion. Is it not more likely that she did this when living at WHF and did this work when on school holidays.

Looking at Goldhanger on Google Maps, I cannot see any supermarkets or shops. Only one pub.

It does look very small. Really somewhere you would drive through. Residents would drive somewhere else to get there essentials.

There may have been a local off licence that would be a 5 minute walk.

So Bamber's testimony that the bike was brought for Julie to go shopping does not work.

She's not going to cycle miles for a loaf of bread. Any shop in Goldhanger to get one would be walking distance.

Julie saying it was suggested a year earlier. To give her the option of cycling to work in Malden.

This is the most plausible reason why a bike would be brought to Goldhanger. It may be used regulary.

However this does not benefit Bamber as in August 1985 Julie was not working in Malden.

Goldhanger has no train station. The nearest mainline station to London is Witham. To get to the station the best way would be to cycle to the nearest bus stop on the Osborne service. It would make sense for Julie to use June's bike. If she was travelling to or from JB's cottage. In the Summer harvest time JB would be working all hours. Early starts and late finishes and would not always be able to give her a lift.

I seem to remember that JM worked at Tiptree during college holidays.
