Says it's 2.6 miles from Goldganger to TD. Going along the main roads.

Obviously Julie is not going to cycle a round trip of over 5 miles for a loaf of bread.

If there was a shop in Goldhanger, that would be walking distance.

Bamber's testimony that he brought the bike for Julie to go shopping when he was not there doesn't work.

Not surprised the CT give another reason. Mind you that is just as bad.

May have been the case at that time, but I think the village shop is now residential.

I believe it was at the time when Ann was pregnant. June did the 'fetching and carrying'. It seemed that Sheila was pretty useless at housework.

Ann Eaton moved into WHF in around 1989 if this information is correct. Her daughter at that time was approx. 14/15  years old putting her birth as around 1975/76. Based on this timing SC would have been 18/19 years old and dating CC. I do not think JB's statement is wide of the mark when talking about how long it was since AE had last seen SC, 18/19 years and 17 years old if AE was still pregnant. SC was born in 1957 and was 28 when she died

There was a village shop and post office on the Maldon road which closed in 2003.If the bike had a basket it would mean less to carry. The bike was for various uses as stated and not only for shopping.

Bamber also says so she could visit a gym. I know Bamber was a member of one at the time, where was the gym located?

The only gym/leisure centre I can find on Google Maps is in Moulsham. Which is over 14 miles from Goldhanger.

There are a lot more gyms about  in 2023 than 1985.

Have you got a source he was a member of a gym?

Anyway Bamber & the CT have dismissed his own trial testimony.

The long term stance has been that Bamber brought the bike over so Julie could cycle to the bus stop. Bamber not saying that when testifying.

Cannot find any shops in Goldhanger. In 2023!

Maybe if someone wanted a sandwich for lunch or dinner they would go to the Red Lion Pub. This was a 100 yard walk from 9, Head Street.

Obviously no one would cycle 5.2 miles to TD & back for minor essentials as was suggested today by BuboBubo.

I think there may have been one in Colchester. If she'd have cycled that far, she's unlikely to have used the facilities of a gym!

Possibly it was when Ann was newly married -mid to late 60's given when Ann was born? There's no point in splitting hairs. It's referenced here, somewhere. Whether or not you choose to believe it up to you.

Yes Chelmsford and Colchester may have had gyms in 1985. Both are over 14 miles away from Goldhanger.

True. It may not be up to date but it would not be 39 years out of date.

The point is that Steve was indicating that there was a more recent meeting and that SC had been AE's Char as a means of supporting his view. The point is WE both agree that it was at a time considerably earlier when this/these meeting took place.

Time to visit Spec Savers my friend for the second time in the thread you have misread. I posted 2003 not 2023. You take the biscuit.
It depends, some items might not have been available at the Post Office shop in Goldhanger. JB could have used any of the reasons and just picked one at different times. Bus Stop, Shopping etc.
I have already posted there were many reasons for having access to a bike stop making silly points.
