Rutted farm track?

Bikes are designed to go over potholes. Up kerbs, even over uneven surfaces.

But a rutted farm track sounds like a job for Indiana Jones.

Not the bike he would have been using.

I have struggled in a 4x4 on some farm tracks, please tell me which bikes are designed to go over potholes I would like to buy one?

A bike with wheels?

Bamber wasn't driving a 4x4 on farm tracks. He was cycling a bike for 20 minutes.

Please don't say pitch black.

That is when you are in a lift with no light.

It was outside darkness.

You know this.

If he left it adjacent to WHF then fair enough will probably retrieve it.

However dumping it down the lane and them going back looking for it in darkness is fanciful in its extreme

20 minutes.

Wow. Do they not go outside after 3pm in the country?

Please post a source for the eyes becoming fully light adapted after a few seconds?

Actually don't bother because you are just making it up I won't say lying as you don't know anyway.

Sounds like Bamber needed a whip and hat to cycle the farm tracks.

Wouldn't be surprised if Pat Roach was hiding in the fields.

I'm sure he put June's bike somewhere he could find it later.

The bike certainly would have been having been dumped.

The CTSB doc has him cycling right up to WHF.

He would know what best suited him.

Have to say none of the new batch of apparent cycling problems would have put me off cycling -

Trees for 50 yards.

A bike thief on Pages Lane at 2am.

Bamber forgetting where he left his bike.

Farm workers working at 2am.

Uneven farm track terrain.

Rutted farm track terrain. (Need explanation).

Barking dogs from 3 properties a long way from Pages Lane.

Spotlight from 3 properties a long way from Pages Lane.

Security cameras from 3 properties a long way from WHF.

Bamber's eyes needing to get used to outside darkness.

----------

I did suggest Pat Roach may appear from the fields mid journey. Now that would put me off!

The main issue was the 3 properties on Pages Lane. Bamber had 3 options with these.

The progress made yesterday is that it has been agreed that farm tracks are generally at least the width of a vehicle. As Rob said, this is partly so tractors can go on them. I have never known of anyone say a road, lane, or track that wide is too narrow to cycle on.

Basically it was cycling on farm tracks for 20 minutes. Between where he lived and worked/used to live. On what Wilkinson described as 'good, level' terrain.

If outside darkness was an issue, the prosecution & defence would not agree it was possible.

If I was Bambers defense I would have easily shown the jury how tricky cycling in the dark with no lights would be on rutted farm tracks.

It was so tricky the cops had to do it in daylight. The main problem though this is all total speculation not a scarp of evidence he actually did this.

For example no one has ever came forward saying their dogs started kicking off at three in the morning, and I have set quite a few dogs off from quite a distance on my walks / work.

Adam, I get the impression that you don't/can't drive? I also get the impression that, whilst you may be an ace at whizzing around your urban area on a bicylce, you experience of rural, as those of us who live in such areas experience it, may be limited.

Farmers, less frequently now, left footpaths round the edges of their fields. Ramblers often couldn't walk two abreast because these paths were so narrow. Those tracks wide enough to facilitate farm machinery, are heavily rutted by their treads. The area between the ruts is also subject to ruts, Quad bikes and 'putputs' which are used for convenience, being the cause. Ankles can very easily become turned, bicycle tires, hitting such, could cause the rider to go over the handlebar -and that's in daylight!

Leaving aside the sea wall, with its styles, steps, and rabbit burrows, farm tracks weren't meant for bicycles -I imagine cycling would be actively discouraged. Footpaths aren't cycle lanes. They were never meant to be such.................however! You might like to explore bridal ways? If a horse can, I guess a cyclist could. So much easier in a car, though.

One thing that may influence peoples opinion of Bamber's transport is there experience of bikes.

I have had a bike for 18 months. So would charge through The Sea Wall route. Espescially if hyped up. Including on June's bike.

Non cyclists may find the words 'farm tracks' intimidating.

Bamber was not a cyclist. However he was young and fit. He had also lived and worked between the two properties for over 10 years. Suspect his cycling would be similar to mine.

Just doesn't look feasible or realistic to me.

For a starters Bamber and RB claimed the route went over fields. They are men knew the area much better than any of us

But let's just use the track route for a moment.

The track path goes through ,3 farms, not alongside as Adam says. There is a huge risk of a security camera, dogs barking, spot lights, anybody being alerted. Not only that he would make the return journey via the same route and through the three farms.

The route is pitch black darkness. Bambers bike had no lighting. He wouldn't be able to navigate the route. He wouldn't be able to see shit

De'ath says the sea wall was populated.
