I'm inclined to believe lookout's post of #65 with the implication that one can't believe a word he said in 1985 or his stories in the Press appearing in 2020.

I agree.

The podcast claims Brett spent time in Athens, knocking on doors in search of modest accommodation. The books on the case have him staying on the island of Mykonos, a small detail maybe but still an inconsistency. It's too pat for my liking also that Brett just happened to buy an English newspaper, when he was a New Zealander, and again just happened to read the Bamber murders story.

I'd be surprised if you could easily buy the New Zealand Herald on Mykonos (or Athens)
I would imagine that the WHF murders would have been on the front pages of all the British Newspapers, on display for the many UK holidaymakers to buy.

Did Brett go to the UK on his own accord

Or did Jeremy invite him?

I think it was a couple of years befors Brett went to the UK after Jeremy had left NZ.
 It was simply a case of Jeremy returning a favour letting Brett stay with him, after Brett had let Jeremy stay with him in Auckland.
Obviously it was easier for Brett to make the decision to go off travelling to Europe, knowing he had somewhere to stay. He'd sold up before leaving. The house he sold would now be worth millions.

I tend to believe Jeremy told him via phonecall in the aftermath and Brett decided to come over on a whim.

Ostensibly to be fair to Brett if he didn't have any prior knowledge of events. Then maybe he did come to support his mate. They were close.

Jeremy confided with Brett on a lot of things and it is evident in Brett's statements.   Brett Knew that Jeremy had a CONCERN about June leaving money to the Church, yet Jeremy Denies he had any CONCERN that his Mother was leaving money to the Church when he is asked.   How did Brett know that June was leaving money to the Church. Brett offers "yes to the Church " when asked if Jeremy knew she was giving her money away, Jeremy knew he was powerless  to stop this from Happening, Unless ......
