But the likes of Deal get inundated with day trippers at the first sign of sun.  You could perhaps join a local protest movement to clamp down on tourism and shoot tourists with water pistols as they do in Barcelona and the Balearics.

It has a railway station with direct access to London and the Kent coast.

I've been trying to choose realistic retirement options. It depends on whether you want to get away from everything, just from something or you wish to maintain your current routine just sans job:

Cheapest option: Ecuador Professional visa $425 income requirement. Pensioner visa $800.

Best middle option: Portugal. Income requirement €760 per month.

Brazil, Argentina around $2000 per month, but I've heard there may be some leeway in individual cases.

I like easy access to London but would not like to live there. 

Bearsted appeals as it is rural and yet has everything on its doorstep: good road network, easy access to London, coast, countryside, airports, ports, Eurostar.

Why not choose a nice base in UK and then take long breaks in the winter to warmer climes?  What about medical and dental care if resident outside UK?

From my research the private health insurance is around $100 per month. There's always a risk in everything. Your property could be broken into if you leave it for three months. I'm still open to suggestion though.

I think I have posted previously the whole of Kent is underrated imo.  I have visited Deal.  As a day visit nothing not to like but no idea what it is like actually living there. 

There are parts of Kent which are very attractive and house prices can be very reasonable in the areas which are not well served by rail and so are not within easy commuting distance of London.

I think members have sensed my dilettantism in the thread. Not wishing to put my feet up with the pipe and slippers watching Tipping Point with Ben Shephard, though not wanting to parade on a float in Recife, Brazil either.

Estimations of my wealth thus far have been grossly exaggerated.

Obviously there are parts of the world where money goes a lot further than here, but there are disadvantages.  Do you speak any foreign languages?

Yes. French, German plus O Level Spanish. I would like a drier climate than the one I'm in currently. Plus it must be a predominantly Christian country. Other than that I'm open to ideas. If I can't make a decision I'll stay put in England.

There are several candidates.  Malta is very pleasant and English is quite widely spoken and British people are welcomed - family memories of the war are still there.  Crete is for the same reason very welcoming to the British and I believe it is still possible to buy property there quite cheaply.  Cyprus is another possibility.  Ireland would probably suit you save for the fact that it is generally wetter than the UK.  There are some parts where property prices are OK but around Dublin prices are extremely high.  Portugal used to be welcoming to British with cheap properties and an overall favourable tax environment but I think that may have changed now.

There are lots of Israelis who have recently travelled by boat to Cyprus. Some are buying up properties. Many are probably affluent.
