Very rainy on the West Coast. I recall my mother telling me she and my grandparents visited Glasgow for the 1938 Empire Exhibition. They stayed in Oban and it rained the whole week. The only entertainment was the cinema. As they were leaving it stopped raining and the sun came out.

There is something about the area that brings a complete relaxation to me having been a city boy all my life.

Just have a massive love for rural areas, especially when driving through them. It's a simple pleasure.

Can remember staying in balliusch I think it's pronounced just prior to covid 19. Late Feb 2020

Remember a chat with a hotelier, by the sounds of it he had just sunk a considerable amount into the place was planning big things, 20 days later we were in lockdown!

I have to admit having checked the temperatures for Santa Marta, Colombia I wouldn't want a Caribbean temperature of 80 degrees year-round, however superficially attractive it may sound.

I had always thought Buenos Aires as top of the list: a nice climate with all four seasons represented, an inexpensive cost of living, a reasonable consumer culture, a good education and health sector, and a fantastic book shop, where I would spend most of what is left of my time on earth. I have since read online, however, that the English language selection is somewhat limited, the stock being primarily romantic and pulp fiction, and not the classics, which I prefer. https://youtu.be/KzJEkIAxOQA

Do you believe the anti English sentiment still exists? Not amongst the government but the populace?

Can't believe it's 43 years ago, can remember it plain as day.

I think it probably does, sadly. I do have a contingency plan: pretend to be a Yank.

Ive always fancied Argentina, the football and the music, but my attention has turned more to Uruguay as of late, it’s the safest Latin America place to live, a low petty crime rate and a low violent crime rate, it’s a beacon of light of security in that region.

Uruguay is one of the safest places to live in Latin America, offering retirees a peaceful, secure, and welcoming environment. With its affordable living, stunning landscapes, top-notch healthcare, and ease of residency, Uruguay is a fantastic choice for those looking to retire abroad.

Many say they got their revenge when Diego punched a ball past Big Peter four years later.

Isn't there a high Welsh contingent in Argentina?

I can remember in the late 70s my Aunt dating an argentine man  who had a Welsh surname.

I did look at Uruguay and everything you say is true. However, it's a little more insular than Argentina, and as a single man I'd probably make more friends in Buenos Aires, due to its cosmopolitan nature. I could always take the ferry to Montevideo for the day, though it is quite a long journey.

Yes, Patagonia, but it's not an area I would consider retiring to.

Uruguay has the highest rate of fiber-optic internet penetration in Latin America. And it’s one of the freest countries on our beat, a place where residence is easy to get, and income from outside of Uruguay, such as a retirement pension or social security, does not need to be reported in Uruguay.

With a wide variety of lifestyles and cultures, Uruguay has much to offer…
