Blackpool, Morecambe, Rhyl, Cleethorpes..https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/grimsby-news/cleethorpes-ranked-one-uks-worst-8270576
I would put Jaywick and Clacton and Skegness above most of those.

I do like the sea and the ocean and I'm by no means a snob, but I don't wish to be kept awake at night by street lager louts or other such anti-social activity.

Just been looking at flat near Nice Steve by the Ocean, £960 for a months rent, you could do a month there, then go back home for a month then choose somewhere else.  Nice is lovely, you can catch the train and travel along the coast and its about 2 euro by tram from the Airport.

I'm like a lot of Brits who like the security of a roof over my head. I'd rather buy a property outright and use as a base. It's horses for courses I suppose.

Have you considered Malta, Steve. It's full of cultural and religious history, has a wonderful climate, and they love Brits. My late partner and I were considering buying somewhere there but sadly, weren't granted the opportunity.

Malta is everything you claim. I've looked at that and alternatives here: https://digitalemigre.com/relocation/best-retirement-visas-in-europe/

I do like Nice, but the guy who mowed down a crowd in 2016 put me off a bit.

Portugal is number 4 on the list for top best places to retire, France is number 7 and Malta is number 8 Steve, the top three were Number1 Panama, number 2 Costa Rica, and number 3 Mexico.  So the nearest to home is Portugal, France and Malta?

Nice offers a decent climate Steve, it is a bit pricey, but it has good conections to the Airport and the train travel along the Coast is a doddle to use, you can be in Italy in no time.

I've looked at Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, Nicaragua, Argentina. Culturally I would prefer the latter, though there's the issue of the frozen pension for non-EU destinations. I don't want too much rain either, even if it is a tropical climate.

My friends Daughter has gone to Bali for 8 weeks with a view to move and buy there.  The photo's are amazing that she has sent back.

I seem to recall a devastating bomb attack in Bali in 2002. I would have to feel safe. I know people who have travelled to Turkey, though again in my opinion they are sitting ducks for a terrorist attack.

I haven't ruled out a seaside resort in the UK, though again one has to do one's research. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/travel/news/we-live-in-a-dangerous-uk-seaside-village-leaving-the-house-at-night-is-terrifying/ar-AA1eTgZE?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=a62629b4cdf142da90c554d26ca26c76&ei=9

Norfolk would be a nice UK place to retire Steve, you have some nice beaches and the Broads to find your way around and a lot of local History.  The climate always seems to be more favourable?

Yes I certainly haven't ruled out staying in the UK.

If relocating it's essential to do one's research. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/portugal-fires-wildfires-2023-map-algarve-b2389971.html

The trouble with EU Countries Steve is the 3 month rule and the residency issue?
