When asked in Police interview why Jeremy thought that the phone call had ended so abruptly he replied that it sounded like someone had cut the call ie pressed the receiver down.
I think that there are 2 possibilities.
1) Sheila "caught" Neville making the call and ended the call by pressing the receiver down
2) Sheila had already shot June and Neville and then threatened Neville that she would go back upstairs and finish June off unless Neville phoned Jeremy to get him to attend the farmhouse. As soon as he had said enough to possibly get Jeremy to attend the farm house she then ended the call by pressing the receiver down. Neville probably guessed that Jeremy would call the Police and at that stage that is probably exactly what Neville was hoping that Jeremy would do.
It seems strange that Neville would have ended the call abruptly on his own after only about 11 seconds
I think it very likely that it was Sheila that ended the call abruptly..
..or it conveniently allowed Jeremy the liberty of not having to elaborate on this part of the story. Not content with annihilating that familial tableau vivant he felt the need to garner sympathy some hours later, disseminating his tissue of lies freely to all auditors present who would lend him their ear, convened in the cramped setting of the Bourtree Cottage lounge, Jeremy's feigned wailing discerned from the roadside as Colin and Heather approached.

Why didn't Nevill take the rifle off Sheila then?

He was twice as big & strong.

If you were faced by a much smaller and weaker person than you but holding a gun but who stayed a few feet away from you pointing the gun at you would you attempt to disarm them ? Most people would not attempt this

Nevill was shot 4 times in/by his bed. So unable to talk and too late to negotiate.

I have not studied the bullet locations in detail
Am I right in thinking that Neville was shot 8 times in total ?
How many bullet cases were found in the kitchen ?

It was a rifle for shooting vermin. Sheila would have to be right next to Nevill to put her fingers on the receiver.

They both initially thought that they saw a gun
Only Brown changed his opinion later when told by somebody else that it was a vacuum cleaner
They were both very clear based on what they saw that they thought that it was a gun
Maybe Mike can answer on here about what led him to believe it was undisclosed ?
Surely it would have been a major feature at trial had his lawyers been aware of it pre trial ?
Surely Jeaprs and Brown would have been called to answer questions about this ?
They certainly should have been

Mike has sadly died.
Why would they be called to question when they BOTH only reported seeing what 'appeared' to be a rifle? Brown was happy when told it was a VC, if he was that certain that he had seen a rifle, the suggestion of a VC would have been dismissed. No doubt Jeapes was also made aware and as far as we know, has made no comment. Both Jeapes and Brown's statements are not just available, they are online for the likes of us to read.

Some time ago WPC Jeapes, as she was then, contributed to a newspaper article rejecting the 'rifle' at the window.  Sadly this will only cause the conspiracy theorists to dig in!

Here is a breakdown of the first 9 shots in the bedroom. Created yesterday.

It cannot be disputed as it follows the crime scene evidence.

Do you know which newspaper or a date for the article please ?

I have access to the newspaper archives in the British Library and would be happy to attempt to find that article and post in this forum but the name of the newspaper or a date would help me locate this article

If my memory serves me correctly it was in a local Essex rag.  I believe Bamber/supporters attempted to contact WPC Jeapes and she then went on record via the local rag rejecting their claims.

What do you mean to dig in Cc?

Two coppers say they maybe saw a rifle at a window and hey presto the crime scene photos are never seen again of the room in question to clarify the matter?

You can't make a mistake (even understandable ones), there always has to be a conspiracy.

Which 'conspiracy theorist' altered the text and meanings of both Colin's and Peter Vanezis' statements?

One thing to remember about British Policing in the 1980”s - if you were a Police Officer you had to follow the “official line” 100% at all times or you were out and your career was finished - that”s a 100% definite fact - same as you could not report a fellow Police Officer for any type of wrong doing or again you were out and your career was finished and very often worse than that - anyone who doesn’t know this as a fact either wasn’t alive in the 1980”s or was incredibly naive …. That”s not a conspiracy theory - it”s a historical fact ….

1980”s British Police routinely beat people up in the cells and fitted people up - they were incredibly racist - on the whole they hated LGBT people with a passion and they saw even extreme domestic violence as a husbands or boyfriends right to indulge in and therefore not a matter for the Police at all - today”s British Police are on the whole very good - but that really wasn’t the case in the 1980”s …
