Cheryl's parents were elderly, her father had recently been discharged from hospital following a hernia operation. Was she considering moving close by to assist her parents in old age? Was she contemplating them selling the farmhouse and the four of them moving into a Barrett Home? What would Jonathan's reaction have been firstly to move back to Wales (I'm assuming he is Welsh) or possibly living with his prospective in-laws?
The Barrett home in the brochure had a price tag of £90,000. From whence was this money to come?

The source of Cheryl and Jonathan's income has always been rather vague. He had worked for Accountants on Call in London but the employment ended in 1991. Cheryl worked for a market research company.

Both salaries might be described as irregular earnings, yet one recalls that the main thrust of Jonathan's alibi was he was out in Orpington on the day of the murders to look for additional office space.

Might the impartial observer be entitled to deduce from this that Jonathan had dreams of expansion of his workplace, with a concomitant increase in income?

Had Jonathan been entirely frank to Cheryl about his financial circumstances, the reader recalling that in the past he had kept from her the repossession of Oakdene until the last possible moment?

Two gunshots were heard ten minutes apart after 1:30pm approximately, the exact time Jonathan Jones claimed to be at home in Orpington settling down to watch Neighbours.

Locals who heard the shots did not consider this untoward, as Harry was in possession of a shotgun to scare rabbits from his cabbage patch.

Harry was also known to have kept a loaded Luger pistol at the farmhouse, though this was reported to no longer be under his bed.

Any intruder bent on malice would have to reckon with both arms. Was this an opportunistic killing akin to John Cooper's modus operandi, or was this a cold, calculated ruthless execution? Were the couple known to the perpetrator or was this an outsider, killing for thrills or immediate monetary gain?

A Wedgewood china mug was retrieved from the display cabinet, the tableware suggesting that the visitor was held in high esteem by the elderly couple.

Tea was poured and a partial thumbprint was forensically extracted therefrom matching Jonathan Jones post-murders.

There was no sign of a struggle in the Tooze's deaths. Both Harry and Megan were taken off guard.

There were potatoes in a pan on the stove, which had been turned off.
