AD would you like to contact EP and ask them what they've done with the tape from the answer phone ?

EP took away the phone and tape and nobody's heard any more since. Do you think for one minute if there'd been anything damning towards JB that we wouldn't have known about it ?

To phone and let his AM answer would only take a minute. So don't know why he wouldn't do it.

He wouldn't do it if he already knew he didn't need to.

If he knows they can't check, he just makes the call to police when he is cleaned up and ready.

JB had several weeks to change the tape in the AM before he was arrested. Very unlikely any evidence would be retrieved even if they had seized it the next day.

If he knows they can't check, he just makes the call to police when he is cleaned up and ready.

He may not have been confident in what he thought the police/BT could do together. If investigating a murder.

Even if confident, no harm in spending a minute covering himself.

If he was wrong in his confidence, it's all over for him if no record of a call.

That's a fair point but it ties him to a time frame

The more I think about it, the more I think it was common knowledge in 1985 that no call data was kept.

We can't know either way but the AM is a good theory if he fakes the call.

Could just be one piece of information he didn't know could be obtained.

Such as BT/the police having records of what phone numbers answer calls & what time.

No record of his cottage answering a call & it's all over.

Or he could have been 70% sure he didn't need to phone his cottage from WHF. So didn't.

He got lucky.

He can give lots of reasons for a 15 minute gap before calling the police -

Didn't know what to do.

Half asleep.

Tried ringing Nevill.

Got dressed.

Looked for the number of police stations.

----------

However any longer & the reasons start wearing thin.

Same as he's done, on previous occasions, from childhood?

For me, all those reasons are thin to begin with.

Nope, besides the fact he was bigger at 24 and not only that the place was locked from the inside initially so not even a hacksaw blade would have done the trick-----which hadn't been brought forward until over a month later, by the relatives---again.
No marks of force inside anywhere. No prints/ blood or clothing fibres found.

Not certain how it can be known, for sure, that everywhere was locked from the inside. Might it not be possible that, having checked one or two windows, and finding them locked, because they thought it was murder/suicide, they didn't bother to check them all?
How often, during those earlier entries, did he cause there to be marks of force? How much had he grown between the murders and 'breaking' a few weeks later, to retrieve documents?

Any marks would have been easily detected because the place had been painted in the July.

It was known that he'd got in via the window for his passport, etc. At the time he was entitled to go into the farmhouse and wasn't breaking in as such.

Getting in through a window is getting in through a window. I find it very odd that he didn't contact anyone to say what he intended re documents. It was almost as if he wanted to be seen to have done it. I think it was said that the repaint hadn't been done at the time you're giving. HAD it been so recently done, it's likely that others would have discovered it for themselves when the windows were checked, ie there was no mention of windows sticking.
