David also agrees an AM is beneficial. Saying in 2018 -

'Yes you do. The answering machine takes the call. If JB thinks the telecom can log the calls then just ringing with no answer will not help because that would show Jeremy didn't pick up the phone.'
'Only I know what really happened that night'.

I remember vividly discussing this aspect of the investigation with Jeremy when I was incarcerated with him on B Wing at HMP Full Sutton on several occasions during late 1989 and July 1990...

Jeremy said that he answered his phone after two or three rings when his father called him that morning!

He said therefore the automatic recording mechanism on his answer phone did not get activated! As such there would have been no recording what his father said to him! He said he told the police that he had answered the phone call quickly.

----------

This is more proof Bamber had an AM.

Wow, Bamber waking & answering within 4-6 seconds/2-3 rings.

Did the police check to see if that was physically possible from upstairs?

Assuming Bamber was up & moving on the first ring. Although he did tell the police he slept 'like a log' when in bed that night.

Mike is also saying his AM was always on. As is the case now, AM's would be on 24/7 in 1985.

If Bamber didn't have an AM pre massacre but felt he needed one to fake the call, he could buy one a few weeks beforehand.

Problem solved.

The crime scene evidence shows this did not happen.

He would barely be able to hear his downstairs phone. Espescially if his bedroom door was shut. Even if awake. But that's what AM's are for.
in fairness you  can't claim that as crystal clarity.

Its not absurd or propostous for him to claim he answered the phone. It could have easily woken him. He lived in a small cottage.

From an innocent Bamber scenario. Logically speaking when your phone goes off in the early hours. You are quick to respond if it awakes your. From personal experience a phonecall at 3AM can signify bad news or something serious

I thought you said he had been planning the crime for months? not good planning to buy the AM just before the crime where someone was bound to remember the transaction?

Did you not read the thread post?

It leaves a record of a 3am call from WHF to his cottage. Which was answered at his cottage.  Then terminated at WHF.

If BT/the police had the technology to check this in 1985.

Not sure how people do not understand that. Unless CC is on a wind up.

It doesn't leave a record of a 3am call from WHF to his cottage.  It simply leaves a blank message on a hypothetical AM at his cottage, because there's no evidence he had one, with a time/date

How can Bamber implicate Sheila on this blank message?

How can he link it in to WHF and get the police involved based on this blank message?

How can he explain to the police any time delay in the datestamp on the AM and taking any action thereafter (time spent on getting back to cottage)?

How can he take any action based on a blank AM message?

he can't

I don't understand the relevance of the AM.

It is totally irrelevant to the narrative of Bamber claiming he spoke to Nevill.

Armchair Detective understands how an AM can benefit Bamber. Even David agrees.

I can't keep saying the same thing to CC.

When JB can't get the call times right, he tells the police to just check the records.

1) He was bluffing, knowing full well there were no records. No call was made.

2) He was bluffing, hoping there were no records. What an idiot!

3) He had no idea if there were records or he thinks there are records but knew they would show that a call was placed and answered because:

i) he was telling the truth
ii) he made the call himself to his AM then reset his machine and changed the tape.

AD would you like to contact EP and ask them what they've done with the tape from the answer phone ?

To phone and let his AM answer would only take a minute. So don't know why he wouldn't do it.
