After she promises to look after the farm, she asks if he is seriously ill and he said

"No, but I don't think I've got long"
"What do you mean? If you're not ill, what's wrong?"
Neville Bamber drew on his cigarette, swallowed deeply and blew a cloud of smoke above his head. "There is so much to tell Barbara," he murmured. "But I can't bother you with all that. It's not your burden. But id anything were to happen to me, you will promise me you'll do that?" (Look after the farm).
"Yes, of course I will."
"Of course" he addes, "the shooting season's coming up." Neville Bamber just sat and looked at her. Then he said, "Living on a farm is a dangerous place and one never knows what's going to happen ..."
His voice trailed off and he looked away.
"Do you have a premonition?" asked Barbara Wilson.
"Well, perhaps. But one never knows. I could go out one day shooting and you never know do you? These things do happen. You never can tell.

Thank you Caroline, what do you make of it? I've found it in the book and it's preceded by such comments as 'Barbara Wilson looked into the careworn face of Mr Bamber..', which suggests to me a fair amount of poetic licence ;)

To be honest, I don't know what to make of it, it sounds like something you know who (cough!! Steve_UK) might have written. Perhaps he mentioned something but it's hard to determine truth from flowery nonsense :). I don't think Barbara Wilson mentioned this at the time or did she?

Thank you Caroline. And if I remember rightly,Wilkes tries to attribute Jeremy as to the cause of Nevill's fears and depression. I wonder what was Wilkes' source of the conversation? Did he take it from BW's statement? If so,he doesn't mention in his book that BW actually held a lot of affection for Jeremy, saying in her statement that she considered him more of a son to her than her own son. And people say that Wilkes' book is not biased!

I know that you're only having a laugh and poking fun at him.. an dhe probably doesn't care about your comments...but aren't you two meant to be mods?

Bridget, Hi. I can offer two explanations. The first being, that if NB was being weighed down by such a huge burden it follows that he wouldn't have been dancing a jig at the time so careworn is acceptable........just :D The second is that Steve turns up in the most unexpected places ;D

I've actually purchased my very first " Bamber " book. It's in the post and should be with me tomorrow.
I'll be doing a bit of referring from the said book as my brain's getting worn out somewhat. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I feel the same about it. If she did mention it at the time I don't think I've seen it.

I think Wilkes interviewed BW for the book didn't he?

Actually, no, I'm not having a laugh. It is my opinion that Steve does write like that. Mod or not, I am still allowed an opinion and I will express it how and when I like - just as you do. If Steve has a problem with that, I will leave it up to HIM to tell me!!

But you do constantly mock and goad him. And you've just admitted you've not doing it for a laugh. Others would get into trouble for such comments because they don't have mod colours to hide behind.
If people see you goading Steve then others starts to do it too and it just looks unpleasant.

I am interested in the details of the intimate relatoonship between David Boutflour and Sheila Caffell - whether or not they became lovers, and if any of the abortions / miscarriages related to that relationship? I think June once caught the pair frolocking together in the barn, apparently they were caught making hay while the sun shone...

Speaking personally, I have no problem with Steve. Why should I? I don't know him. For all I know, he could be having a laugh at our expense by playing Devil's advocate. That doesn't mean to say that I agree with anything he says. In fact, in conversation with him, I have been known to describe what he says as "Ballcocks", but he is more than capable of standing up to me and/or anyone else who challenges what he says, and he frequently does, as is his right. Also, I wouldn't say Steve is totally averse to a little goading.
