Now, shortly after the deaths - Jeremy was caught trying to sell nude pictures of his sister to a number of newspapers.
According to some more creditable newspapers, they turned him down, but when he approached some tabloids, they knew they had a better story in exposing him.
The defence team will argue this was typical of tabloids, although from memory, some more credible newspapers came to the fore and confirmed that he had made attempts to sell the photos (not sure of the nature of them, but perhaps best decribed as 'risqué' and maybe venturing into 'soft core').
Do we have supporting evidence for these events (or anything to help denounce them)?
And if he did do this, whilst not making him guilty, it is once again painting a quite dubious picture of him wouldn't you agree?
-
Highly unlikely he'd go in person.
Possibly phoned them in person.
Are you wondering if that part was a stitch up by someone?
There was talk of him being keen to obtain her photos (in order to sell them), and I'm not sure who would know about such photos, or indeed if they exist. But I think at the time it was believed they did exist.
Will have to dig deeper into it.
But he DEFINITELY took artifacts from WHF and from Sheila's flat and auctioned them. To be fair, I don't think there was anything secretive about this, people knew, but it was deemed a bit damn quick (just a few days afterwards)
-
Has Bamber ever denied that it was him who tried to sell the photographs to the press?

I'm not sure we've even got decent evidence he tried to sell them.
There is evidence that the papers said he did, but as to what evidence they themselves had, I don't know. It was 1985, so would take some archive research, unless I can find some on the net.
It's one of those 50/50 things where half say "oh yes, he definitely did" and others say "newspaper rubbish"
-
If Bamber is the money grabbing playboy we are lead to believe he is, wouldn't he have sued said papers for libel?
-
colin took some photos of sheila while they were both sunbathing one afternoon, sheila was naked in the pictures but certainly not pornographic.
there were others according to the claire powell book, sheila had some taken by a proffesional photographer but they showed bit more than she had bargained for.

I believe it's commonly held to be true, he was trying to cash in, but without the evidence, it doesn't count.
-
Do they have proof it was him who actually contacted them - ie did he go into the offices in person?

It was Brett Collins who contacted the press about these matters...

Brett was his New Zealand gay friend, some people think he held some sway with Jeremy, although to what extent is highly debatable.
It would be reasonable for Jeremy to use a 'middle man', but it's just as likely (in my opinion) that so called 'friends' start seeing ways to make money and offering interviews and insights, photos (normal ones!) and the like.
I have no difficultly buying into some creepy so called friend trying to sell them. Very believable.
That still doesn't prove it either way.
Maybe we won't get anywhere on this topic :-( I was just curious how much they could pin on Jeremy knowing about it / endorsing it / instigating it.
But let's not give up!

And is this Brett Collins the ex armed robber, now prison reform activist?
Or someone else with the same name?
-
I'm not sure it's the same guy -
I think I looked into this chap (the activist) and thought he was in prison around the time of the Bamber killings, although I could be mistaken.
History on the activist was vague, but I too wondered if this could have been the same man.
-
i read that bamber and collins had met a journalist in a pub and then tried to sell the pictures of sheila.
dont know who set the meeting up, cant remember off hand.

Released end of 1981? Definitely out by 82.

For over thirty years Brett Collins has represented prisoners’ interests nationally and internationally. He is a Coordinator for Justice Action and a spokesperson for the Prisoners Action Group.
He has an Arts degree in Law and Economics from University of Queensland 1982 and a postgraduate Diploma in Criminology from Sydney University Law School 1984.
He is the founder and Managing Director of Breakout DesignPrintWeb, begun in 1984 that employs twenty people, serves many unions, community groups and corporations, and resources Justice Action. It employs and trains ex-prisoners, and funds itself.
In 1971 he was sentenced to seventeen years in prison. Of the ten years he served he spent long periods in segregation units classified as an intractable prisoner and troublemaker. He is the current NSW record-holder for remaining on a prison roof – 3 days. The Australian Government attempted to deport him to New Zealand after the end of his sentence but he gained sufficient community support to allow him back into the country.
He led the team defending Australian prisoners right to vote before the Senate Inquiry in 2006. Justice Action hosted the eleventh International Conference on Penal Abolition in 2006 in Tasmania. He has been involved in campaigns including reform of police corruption, the NSW Drug Summit, facilitating the Australian Prisoners Union, and production of the prisoners’ newspaper JUST US.
He has supervised hundreds of people on community service orders since 1984, managed a halfway house, formalised JA Mentoring as a challenge to imprisonment and does continuous media work.
Aha, it might have been the 17 years I saw, and not the 10 years actually served.
Not sure it's the same guy - but interesting... very. Degree in Criminology?... I mean this is purely speculative, but it does fit nicely into someone sowing seeds into Jeremy's mind - esp if Collins was impressively articulate and able to impress Bamber.
Not going to be easy to work out if it is the same chap...
I know some 'checking up' was done on him by the family, and sometimes reported as hiring a PI, but I think Robert Boutflour suggested it was simply a cousin (or similar) in Aus who did the checking. The internet wasn't really around then, so unlikely he'd have turned up that much without spending a fair amount of money (unlikely)

A great deal of his work involves prisoners with drug issues or incarcerated for drug related crimes.
He's involved with a group that arranges cannabis smoking get togethers outside prisons...
Have seen images that defy a 'toker' image. He appears body-builder fit. Perhaps an interest he shares with David Shaw?
This is how easy conspiracy theories are folks!
-
It might help if we could locate some images of him with bamber after the murders (or even before if they exist anywhere). Might not be easy to recognise him though.
Some people still look recognisable, like Ann Eaton and Colin Caffell, but Jeremy himself has changed, and you could easily not recognise him today. Same for Julie Mugford.
-
This is a picture of Brett Collins and Angela Greaves (supposedly Bamber's then girlfriend...doesn't waste much time does he!) leaving the courthouse during Bamber's trial.
-
hard to be sure, doesn't look a great match initially
-
Similar ears... :D
-
Both like to wear ties. :D

Angie's taken a turn for the worse too in those glasses!

Christ, Angie, try the HRT.........................
-
Seriously, I've had a better look, and although Angie turned into Norman Tebbit, I think that we might have 2 different Bretts here. Check out the nose, chin, and pointy head. Or have you lot already decided this while I was away? Tch, you guys!
-
Different Bretts. Different noses, as far as it is possible to tell. Different generations too, I think - I mean Brett Collins was in his thirties, I think, when Jeremy Bamber was in his twenties. Also, if that Brett Collins known to Jeremy Bamber was the same one in the more recent image, Boutflour's enquiries into this past should have come up with a lot more!
-
How did Anji Greaves have time to be Jeremy's new girlfriend anyway?
-
I wonder if JB lived on Planet Jeremy? He seemed to have no self-doubt, huge amounts of confidence and an impression (possibly seeded by June) that he was asbestos. Although I genuinely came to this forum with an open mind, I can't help but conclude that Sheila had no part in the murders. Although I think that she was the last to die. I wish that I could be more like some of the brilliant minds on here, and interpret evidence and be more scientific. But my brain doesn't work that way. All I've got is intuition.
-
Due to the angle of the photos, I'm not as sure regarding discrepancies between noses etc.
The main difference seems to be that Jeremy's Brett has some little vertical frown lines above his nose, and Justice's Brett has none. Unless he's being partaking of botox!
-
Has Bamber ever denied that it was him who tried to sell the photographs to the press?
If the stories were made up by the press, Bamber would have sued them, he didn't..
END OF.
-
There's no context here. Since Sheila was already a working model known as "Bambi", what sort of pictures of her had already been published?
-
Believe it was The Sun newspaper that took the moral high ground. ???
Have seen a picture of SC in a bikini top and a sarong, but few other images. Uncertain if she was still a model by 85. June had planned to give her a regular allowance to help with finances.
Reference has been made to her Maida Vale flat being rented. If this is the case, what had happened to the property the Bambers purchased for SC and Colin?
