It will be interesting to see any abusive pm messages as Mat always says he is always in contact with the mods

It will also be interesting to see who Mat refers to as the Ist  person who is most disliked person on the forum

Jackie, Simon McKay is possibly the most important person who has ever dealt with and supported jeremy. I do feel we should have a thread devoted to him.  All pro Bambers need to get behind Simon and support him. Do the mods agree with this.

I agree Maggie wasting time on threads like this.
As Mat has states he is in very close contact with Keira why couldn't this have been sorted out privately instead of putting suspicion on everyone on this forum

It appears some people have forgotten why this forum was set up in the Ist place while Jeremy rots in prison

It might be a funny game to some people but not to me
Title: Re: 20 pms

Wow , calm down Jackie. This thread wasn't created to goad you.

You have never sent me a PM so I obviously wasn't talking about you, love.

As for reporting people that are negative in PM's - why would I do that?  My goal isn't to get members banned from a forum they want to post on just because they sent me a PM - plus there are amillion and one other things I'd prefer to talk Keira about than PM's.

Also, this thread is in OFF TOPIC. Because it doesn't have anything to do with the case, or JB or SM. If you want a thread about them, go make one instead of claiming you're being goaded to try make me look bad.

No, I haven't. And you are right, the thread was established by Mat and I apologise if I have belittled your concerns in anyway, I was just trying to suggest that the forum is, on the whole, friendly and an excellent resource but as you point out, my experience has so far been a trouble free one.

Its all a bit late tonight but maybe we should do this tomorrow.  Maybe we could put some background up about simon and the things that drive him.  He has certainly shown himself to be commited to Jeremy he hasn't walked away as others have. Its about time we gave him the recognition that he deserves. imho.

This thread is like the twilight zone. It seems to me that people are looking for reasons to be offended.

IMO a thread about Simon Mckay's background and motivation is a bad idea since opinions may vary and some may be unwelcome.

Hi Susan, I don't know much about him at all. I have only seen his comments that were made an the "tonight" program. From that comment, it took it that he deals with facts and evidence and, rightly so. His role in defence should be to look at the evidence in the past and evaluate with in modern day scientific approach, which is what he is doing, I hope.

Where he lives I have no idea...I suspect it is Leeds. :)

Simon McKay seems to me an excellent lawyer although I am no legal expert but I am guided by Neils opinion of him and also the calibre of people that follow him on twitter and interact with him. He will be on twitter talking to about six different people about different cases at once. He wants to know everything that is going on.
He is followed by lots of important people in the media too.

In the short time (just weeks) he had to get to grips with the case I think he has done an excellent job and I believe he will be successful in overturning this conviction.

I think there will be a campaign starting very soon to get more public interest than there has been so far and I have lots of ideas to help with this

I don't think the general public are aware of the PII issues in this case as the documentary didn't have time to deal with those issues.
I will also be opening up my twitter account for people to post on.
I want details about the case posted continually

I don't think Simons financial position has any bearing on this case or reflects on if he is a good lawyer or not

I think Jeremy is in very safe hands with Simon and we all need to get behind him

I'm an optimist, Rochford, perhaps the truth lies somewhere between your pessimism and my optimism?
Who was it who said 7 days is a long time in politics, or something like that? Former PM Wilson, I believe. That's very true of most campaigns too.

In so many political and protest campaigns, my lot seemed set to win or lose. Then, in the twinkling of an eye, everything changes. The recent local elections were a prime example of this. One day, one party was getting excellent canvassing returns and seemed set to to win the most wards. Then the next day, their vote began to collapse.

I've been involved with campaigns - little Davids(!) against rich and powerful Goliath affairs - which seemed unwinnable and utterly hopeless. Yet everything turned around and little David won. So I never take anything as given or set in concrete these days.

You did report this to me Jackie and I was on the forum and yes, I chose not to take the action you requested. I saw no reason for any action.  Mat had not complained about abusive posts.  If he had done so I would have investigated and taken action as appropriate.

While I was on holiday this week I was skimming over the forum and somebody (possibly AA but I can't be sure) put a very informative history of Simon which was very interesting. I think it might be important to somehow check (not necessarily members of the forum but somebody) that the legal team have copies of all of the thousands of documents that Mike has, the thought of them missing even the shortest, least important document in such a complicated case is a worrying one.

All I'm saying Susan, is that there are alternative views on Simon McKay, and aspects to his background which some would prefer not to hear about. It'll just end up in yet another battle.

The alternative views on Simon McKay have been based upon a misunderstanding and in some cases distortion of several matters which are in themselves a matter of public record.  In order to attempt to discredit Simon, solely because of his involvement pro bono in the Bamber case, disgraceful personal attacks have been made upon Simon on Lamberton's forum and the associated twitter feed.  Some of these attacks are clearly defamatory and for good reason I am not going to comment on them here.  The matters which have been distorted, exaggerated and used as the basis for these personal attacks are not matters which in any way reflect upon the personal integrity or abilty of Simon.

Are they in contact to see which they may or may not have then or do the legal team think they do not need to go through all of Mike's documents? rochford  just off topic have you ever tried dock pudding. (Don,t)  They have a competition every year in Yorkshire and Sir Bernard Ingham returns to his roots to judge the thing.  Wow what an exciting life they have dock pudding makers.

Are they in contact to see which they may or may not have then or do the legal team think they do not need to go through all of Mike's documents? (the tone of this post may seem aggressive but it is not, it is purely for lack of a better way of phrasing my question :) ) I'm sorry NGB, I understand you are heavily involved but I do not know your exact involvement which may explain some of my ignorance.

Your post is not aggressive at all and your question is a fair one.  As I understand it Mike and the legal team are not currently in direct contact.  Simon McKay's focus in the limited time available to him before the final dealine imposed by the CCRC was to obtain fresh expert evidence, which of course he did.  If and when he does secure a referral to the Court of Appeal it is likely that a much more comprehensive review of all case material will be undertaken in preparation for the appeal itself.  As part of that I anticipate that there will be direct contact with Mike and as I have already said Mike has throughout indicated his willingness to assist in any way he can.

Given the number of posts on here that I have seen which basically say that an eminent high flyer such as Simon McKay would not waste his time with jeremy if he was guilty, it's to be expected that someone will eventually say "well hang on a minute, he's not so eminent or high flying as they would have us believe, here are the facts, backed up by publicly available documents."

I agree that to take it further, and especially by way of a twitter campaign is unacceptable and probably amounts to harassment. I also agree that the comments made were defamatory, but since they appear to be true they would be easy to defend.

I probably haven't read all of the comments so if you're talking about something I'be missed I apologise.

I accept that simply pointing out facts would not be sufficient to constitute libel (the defence of justification would apply).  However, some of the posts contained allegations and comments which went way beyond the facts and interpreted those facts incorrectly.  Those posts were defamatory.

Even against the backgrounds of the "facts", it is still fair to describe Simon as an "eminent high flyer".  He is very highly respected within the profession.

That's fair enough, clearly I haven't seen all that has been posted. We'll have to agree to disagree on our individual interpretations of an eminent high flyer.  :)

My dear ajross.  Sir Bernard Ingham was press secretary to Mrs Thatcher and virtually ran the show.  He was born in West Yorkshire to a staunch labour family and started his career as a junior journalist with a Leeds newspaper he then went on to hold a position with the Labour party then switched sides to the conservative party and ended up a VIP as he thought.  He lives in the South and bestows himself on the Yorkshire people now and again (thank goodness not to often) but we don,t really consider him to be a Yorkshire man anymore anything else you need to know just ask.

Was thinking of him earlier. It doesn't look like their austerity measures are working. They cut as if it is some kind of competition between them.  As if they are saying 'look at us! We are emulating our heroes from the Thatcher administration....  I've always wanted to do this!'

Can I ask you, what is dock pudding?

I have been expertly informed that it is a delicacy native to West Yorkshire which is made with Dock Nettles (?) and oatmeal, presumably in pudding form and best consumed with lashings of Yorkshire Ale! I no longer drink and have never tried dock pudding but I can confirm that Yorkshire ale is fine ale from the days that I was a hearty consumer of real ale.

I've never visited Halifax although I did once apply for a job at an acute assessment unit there. I've been to a wonderful pub in Saltaire though, I walked from Armley to there along the canal with the purpose of going to an ale and cider house which was well worth the walk!

P.S. don't worry about the name, most of what I say is dross!  ;)

It wasn't so much that I was pleased to get out of Yorkshire, things just didn't pan out the way they were supposed to, I moved from Valencia to Leeds, it was always going to be a hard task! ;) Yes, Halifax seemed nice, I also liked Hebden Bridge, Grassington, Malham and Howarth while I lived up that way.

Sorry, I was making refernce to one of my favourite films, hence the 'The Slaughtered Lam' reference. I am pretty sure I have been to the pub you mention, is it at the top of a very steep hill (my 106 struggled up) you turn right and it's on the left a short way before the rather picturesque High Street?
