No. Many prisoners protests innocence even if the evidence is so overwhelming its a joke to protest innocence. 

John Cannan still claims he is innocent of everything even though its obvious its him that killed Shirley Banks and Suzy Lamplugh.

I agree with this. Part of protesting innocence would be to claim there are missing & withheld documents. It's impossible for the police to prove this is not the case.

From my knowledge and personal experiences, it's the fact that the prosecution either relied on fabricated evidence, fake witness statement contents, and non disclosure of all the required or requested material!
