Slowing/increasing digestion and Haloperidol
« on: May 30, 2011, 04:26:PM »
I am sorry to start a whole new thread on this, but shonapugs asked somewhere (can't find where now, hence the new thread in the hopes she sees this) whether Haloperidol slows or increases the digestion.
I have tried looking into it (HARD for me in English  :o) and found this:

"Among responders, haloperidol treatment had a "normalizing" effect on metabolic activity in the striatum, with the metabolic rate while they were receiving haloperidol being higher than that while they were receiving placebo. "

So the metabolic rate is higher in individuals taking Haldol, so the digestion should be HIGHER too, right?
I´ve read that there is a slight risk of weight gain in patients on Haldol, but that is due to increased appetite, not slowed digestion.
