Adopting this method allows any enquirer to get as 'close to the truth' as possible...

Which particular truth are you referring to. That told by the victor is always going to be different from that told by the vanquished.

I'm just an onlooker.  The truth as seen by the everyday normal man/woman.

When we refer to 'normal' we speak of ourselves -our only frame of reference- it's different for each of us/ ie, I'm certain that most of us here would regard ourselves as being 'normal' but others may be inclined to think otherwise of us.

 I agree. I was referring more to one's understanding as to how one sees it. It depends on whose eyes it's being viewed through.
