I'm not certain what could be described as "hard evidence" in this instance. There can only be school day recollections from either side.

In other words hearsay-------just to muddy the waters a bit more.

It doesn't explain why no one has come forward to refute the claims.

They can't if it wasn't said in the first place.

SOME of it certainly was -I can only speak of what I've heard but I can't vouch for it's authenticity- and was printed, true or not. My point is, true or not, no one came forward to say that what had been said was untrue.

Then where is evidence of it, Lookout? You usually resort to accusations of 'nit picking', I suspect, whenever you feel there maybe a modicum of truth in what's being put to you.

That's just it,there's no evidence. Unless it was all part of the " initiation ceremony " that these oiks practice at their boarding schools------in which case, abuse wouldn't "purposely" have been of a sexual nature.

I was no longer talking about the alleged sexual incident, Lookout. I was referring to the dearth of support offered Jeremy by school friends/anyone. Going back to said alleged incident, though, we've come full circle. It was suggested yesterday that there was no evidence of it -save Jeremy telling Brett(?)- and as I said, if it was a consensual act between boys of a similar age, it can't be called abuse.

As I see it there was no abuse then and anything concerning Brett I reserve my better judgement.

Hmm. Well for a thread who's value calls to mind "much ado about nothing" this one's had a long enough run, don't you agree?

Part of me wonders why so much is being made of this alleged incident. Such things appear to be 'rites of passage' for some, in (boarding) schools world wide. Why did the Headmaster do nothing about it? We don't 'know' that there was anything to do something about and if there was it's unlikely, unless it was endemic and/or reported at the time, that the Headmaster ever got to hear of it.

Examining what Jeremy was like at the time, I think we're certainly likely to find the proverbial "fish out of water". From stories told of him during his time at Maldon Court, his prep school, he was said to be the scourge of the school bus, a regular and spiteful bully. If these stories are true, we see a Jeremy who was confident enough to feel he could get away with such behaviours. It's sad, if not cruel, that boarding school coincided with him learning of his adoption. It may have made him feel that he was a secret which couldn't be shared. I believe it would have changed him from a child who felt powerful and confident enough to bully others into one who was ripe for being bullied and I can only imagine the anger he must have felt at being rendered so powerless and helpless. It's unsurprising, then, that later in his school career, he once again gained the reputation of being a bully. I find it telling -and not a little disturbing- that few -ANY- of his peer group has come forward to speak about jolly times they enjoyed with him when they were children. Surely, had he been popular, they'd have fought tooth and nail to support and defend him?

the headmaster would still no want to  admit that such things happened at his school.

But it was probably the best part of 45 years ago and if no one has said anything, there's no charge to answer, and as this doesn't make a shadow of difference to what occurred 30+ years ago, I see no point in furthering what can only be scurrilous rumour.
