My own powers of reasoning suggest that which can be neither proved nor denied is put out there under the heading of literary licence.

Meaning that like the press authors can elaborate and fabricate to their hearts content until such time that someone comes down on them like a ton of bricks-----------I hope.

If what they say can't be proved or denied, what you suggest may be easier said that done, but what I don't understand, Lookout, is that we had a conversation about this only the other day, during which you agreed that there was no truth in the implication that Sheila was burgling country houses, ergo, any stories about the dynamic between family members when Sheila was a child must be treated with the same scepticism.

The same goes for the police investigation-------------to be treated with scepticism.

But the police aren't employing sensationalism to sell books.

Really ? How do you think reporters get their info after a tragedy, etc ? And so it goes on from there.

Many ex. or retired police officers have turned to writing books--------about what they THINK they know.

I reiterate, Lookout. WHOMSOEVER the author. If what they choose to write can neither be proved nor denied they can do it safely. It's entirely up to the gullibility of the reader whether or not they choose to believe it.

that is one good thing about the book by CAL - she lists all her sources . However  some are still a bit fuzzy in their memory so to speak .

I imagine we're talking about her sources' memories.

Whatever her sources,I imagine that if she's studied the case in-depth and in order to get the proper information, then the sources of her information shouldn't be that far from her mind to write as near as dammit,an accurate recollection.

Surely, when authors aren't at the SOC, they must rely on those who were, ie their SOURCE. If they write OTHER that what's been told them their source would have every right to deny having said it.
