I am calm , just amazed at your posts.

No you don't know - you assume.

The only things we know about her thoughts are from her doctor and we don't KNOW what happened on the night . They are only suggestions or possibilities . She could have been delusional - she could have been clinically depressed  they are possibilities. How you can reach any conclusions about how her mind worked is beyond me.

Well the only thing we know about her thoughts, is what the doctor said. This thread is about the bible.

None of her warped thoughts about her children would have come from the bible. There is no evidence she read the bible and certainly nothing to suggest she would have looked for it prior to killing herself.

So my list above is assuming. What else can anyone do ?

It is very common for people suffering from P.S. to have religious, fire and brimstone type delusions and hallucinations. She had been around religious people all her life, no doubt had Religious Instruction at school, that would be enough for her delusions, hallucinations etc. to manifest that way.  There is no clear reason why so many people with P.S. have such delusions. It may have had nothing to do with June's religious fervour or it may have been the cause. :-\

As a child,Sheila would have June reading passages from the Bible as opposed to bedtime stories and this practice gave Sheila nightmares, etc and it generally set the scene for the horrors of the " devil " which would come to dominate her life.
 June was totally unwell !

This comes from Claire Powell's book.

I can say that when my cousin started an episode, it was usually with some kind of religious tirade. Being delusional, voices in ones head could easily be attributed to some supernatural being.

I found this when I was working at a mental hospital. Some of the women were " creepy " when they called out to Biblical characters. Septimus was one woman's " favourite " as she'd said he used to appear when she called him. The Seventh Sign.

I guess it makes sense that if people hear or see things that aren't visible, they will assume a religious element.

Voices in the head, especially when they are tellng you to do things, are quite often linked to the Devil and God, good and evil. Whether rightly or wrongly. Does make you wonder how many of the people suffering from such would state it is the devil/God telling them to do such things if it wasn't such a wide known diagnosis.

In my brothers case, there wasn't a religious element at all. I guess everyone is different.

I won't ask how you know. You got it from CP. I WILL ask, though, from where CP got her information. She wasn't there during Sheila's childhood and I can't imagine that ANY member of the family would be so disrespectful of June's memory to pass on erroneous information about her.

Just a little add on. I actually LOVED bible stories when I was a child.

Or might it simply be our conscience having a did at us?

--------------not about the devil though, which Sheila had to endure.

I too enjoyed Divinity at school and at Sunday school and also at a Mission church. I have a Bible and also know off by heart all the Hymns, but I wouldn't dream of encouraging/forcing others to prefer the teachings from a Bible to a good, children's story book .Sheila was spooked as a youngster because she was so impressionable, more so than most I expect.

My own powers of reasoning suggest that which can be neither proved nor denied is put out there under the heading of literary licence.
