Sorry to be clear he did not mention a shotgun specifically - he just seemed to think she would not know how to handle that type of gun . However a shotgun would probably be the most common type of gun used in the farming set . She used to go on shoots as a beater so would have seen guns being used.

I have to say  I am 50% through CAL book. There are a few occasions where I could say her bias is quite obvious. However for most of the book so far she has tried to use both views and the book is well written and it is good to see the quotes in a historical context of how the case unfolded.

I have learnt a few things that are interesting ( especially some comments between Colin and the family)
I have just come to the bit where Julie tells all - and I cant help it as soon as I read it I think her statement was arranged to fit the crime scene . IMO it is all very odd.

DB also said she was a good actress as she had the perfect opportunity to tell him everything as they were on their own collecting a fish supper one night - and she never said a word.

his words about the riffle suggest he thought she could use some sort of gun but not a riffle all though he does not actully say it he sort of implys it.

I agree . Because otherwise he would have been like the relatives and expressed his doubts straight away.

colin also thought the family were capable of fitting Jeremy up and mentioned that to their face .

Also  a policeman is quoted as saying that RB told him that if the police did not get Jeremy that basically he would sort things out himself .

Yes it was because I genuinely think that they did think Jeremy was guilty - now whether that suited them and that strengthened their belief only they knew.

I am about 60% through the book and I would recommend it as a read . It does give a good timeline and is written in a way which so far you are given a fair chance to make up your own mind ( I don't think the author did herself any favours by her publicity in the papers)

I am a bit disappointed with a few aspects but so far I am glad I purchased it. I think we all know which bits to take with a pinch of salt .

I might just buy it if only to compare with what others have written.
