One of my American friends always kept a loaded 45 under her car seat whilst travelling. She was at home alone once and heard a noise in the kitchen, went out there with her 45 and caught a man climbing in her kitchen window. She pointed her gun at him and said, "Stay right there buster!" The man cried out with fright, "Hold on honey. It's me". It was her husband. So a frying pan was not her first choice.

In your example she carried a gun around regularly and thus obviously had an interest in guns.  Sheila did not. Why was he climbing in the kitchen window anyway that is pretty stupid especially if he knows his wife has a gun.

Seems most women carry a frying pan round with them, if they're particularly sophisticated and cosmopolitan the wok is their weapon of choice

Sheila wasn't going out on the street. She supposedly was attacking people after becoming crazy and raged. Her weapon of choice in the past was pots and pans and that was only at her ex-husband.

A rolling pin is not a very good weapon, it is hard to wield in a useful manner.  It is mainly used as a threat to look menacing.

Do people even use them?  We have a really heavy one from the Oxo Good Grips line and I have never seen my wife use it once. All it does is take up a lot of space in the drawer.  We have cabinets and drawers full of crap rarely used if ever but if I suggest placing such in the attic or basement and just leaving the stuff we use routinely in the kitchen cabinets it is as if I asking to commit bloody murder.

Yes, if you make your own pastry you need one. There is  baking fad in the UK at the moment and I think  lot of people are using them more. It's far easier to buy frozen pastry but people like the challenge of making it themselves. I know what you mean about too much crap - same here!! There is lots of it in the attic too - we need to have a car boot sale (or yard sale?) and de-clutter!

 I have two. I bought a "non stick" shiny metal one - £19.99...... And good God it is awful, the flour won't stick to it...so when it touches pastry it sticks!!!!! So I have a pound shop one and that is much better.

I've got two two!!  . One of them was my grans and it's brilliant. Don't make pastry often but I like to make it at Christmas.
