I have read that the police rammed a chair against the internal door when they returned to find that a "dead body" with  rifle had gone walkies! They were confident that there was an armed person in the house.

Was that in a book Haughton? If so,do you remember which one?
A firearms officer also remarked about hearing movement upstairs shortly after entering. He dismissed the noises as having come from another member of the team..........but they were still checking the rooms downstairs!

Hi tyler. I've never read a book on this subject. I remember reading it on this forum about 6 months ago,
it said that the EP realised that there must be an armed person in the house and "panicked". barracaded he door and waited for armed back-up

Was there a dog upstairs because I seem to remember reading that there was.
Could the dog have been moving about?

I bet they didn´t paw-print him!  :P
It could have moved around, of course, but it was found under the bed, terrified. I think it ran and hid under the bed when the shootings started and stayed there, poor thing.
But I don´t know too much about dogs, I am just guessing.
Why do you ask, SUMMER?

Have you a reference for this evidence?

It's easily referenced.  Just check chapter 3 of the 'Bungled Raid' section in the 'Framing Methods in Practice 1985' file... handed to the defence by Essex Police with a handshake.

Apparently when they handed it over, they said... "look, no hard feelings.... we thought this might come in handy at some point"...

the dog may have been the noise they heard , the dog i think is mentioned in colins book, in search of the rainbows end, shaking under a bed, the dog is the whole link to this case to me.

The dog - which the killer, to my mind, inexplicably spared - was Sheila's dog when she was younger, wasn't it?

COLP INVESTIGATORS, refused to copy a total of 60 photographs taken at the scene during the investigation by Essex police into the five deaths on 7th August 1985. These 60 photographs belonged to six separate negative strips containing 10 frames, and are understood to include photographs of Sheila Caffells body on top of the bed at a time when she only had one shot to her neck. One of these two photographs depicts Sheila on the bed in a sexually provocative pose, with her groin region fully exposed. Other photographs not copied by COLP include further shocking images of victims stage managed in provocative poses. Some of the photographs in this section were taken before PC Bird arrived at the scene or started to take his own photographs which commenced at around 10 O'clock that same morning...
