My experience is people do often shut their bedroom doors when going to bed.
I do. Whether living alone or with someone. I would struggle to hear a lounge phone ringing, even when awake with a bedroom door shut. Even when living in a flat.
If 'sleeping like a log' I certainly would not hear a phone ringing with a bedroom door shut. Whether in a flat or house.
Jeremy's bedroom was upstairs, meaning a phone ring sound would have to travel through the lounge and travel upstairs. Then travel through a shut door. It is unlikely an awake person would hear it. Someone 'sleeping like a log' would certainly not hear the phone.
Jeremy must have left his bedroom door open. Or did he ?
My experience is that people who live alone, particuarly men, don't bother to close their bedroom door.
Even with it open the chances of a phone so far away waking him up woudl be slim. It would take him several minutes to answer and that is a problem because he had an answering machine that would have picke dup before he could reach the phone. If he had it off then it would mean Nevill sat there letting it ring for several minutes instead of hanging up to call someone else.
Where was Sheila during this and why would June still be in bed during it? No Jeremy supporter can ever provide a plausible explanation. Instead they change the subject.
Moreover, if this actually happened Sheila would simply have shot him upon discovering him on the phone not to disconnect the call and make sure the phone remained off the hook so no one else could call then march him upstairs to shoot him in the bedroom with June. In a psychotic rage she would just care about killing him, not be bothered trying to plan out where to do it and to make sure he is killed alongside June.
