Hello

Hi I came upon JB's case via Terry Mullins as my husband was in the unfortunate position of requiring a lie detector test to refute false claims of historic sexual abuse by a vengeful family member. (He passed of course, not that it made any difference he has been charged and faces trial next summer)

I have read pretty much everything on the campaign website and I am horrified at what has happened to JB at the hands of the police and his family/others.

Before our unfortunate experience it never occurred to me that the police were not interested in the truth, but more concerned with securing convictions. Since the early 2000's when targets were introduced this has become an endemic problem, the average citizen has no idea how they operate. The idea that the bad old days of corrupt policing in the 70's/80's are well behind us is delusional. The risk of a miscarriage of justice is just as great today as it has ever been.

I don't envisage that I will be posting very much as we concentrate on our own case but would like to express my admiration for Mike and others that do so much to publicise JB's case. This is surely the greatest miscarriage of justice in British history. I sincerely hope 2014 will bring justice for Mr Bamber.

Hello Truthseeker. Welcome to the forum. It is interesting what you said about your husband passing the lie detector test but is facing trial next year. Why I wonder do they use these lie detectors if the results cannot be used in court? But I bet if he failed it would definitely be used in court against him and quite probably the jury would believe it? I only hope that the results of him passing the test will be used in court in his favour.
Interesting also that you tell of this vengeful family member. If she (I assume it is a she) is indeed only driven by her vengeace alone then this also indicates how far some people will go to their vengeance satisfied as I believe is the case with Julie Mugford?

Hello Grahame lie detectors are only used at Trial if the accused failed it :'( we do know they are used in other cases and the results accepted.

Hello truthandjustice Welcome to the forum.  Think we all know that certain police officers are only interested in convictions that was proved by the Birmingham 6 The Guildford 4, The Cardiff 3 and many many more MOJ.  Good luck fighting your husbands MOJ.  We are hoping 2014 is Jeremy Bamber's year and he will not be serving another Christmas in prison such a waste of a young man's life.

Hi Grahame and Susan

The lie detector was something my husband funded himself as he was so desperate to clear his name. Polygraphs are not considered admissible evidence in UK courts, they are however used routinely to screen convicted sex offenders on release to gauge their intentions regarding reoffending, so double standards are very evident here.

When you are accused of an historic sexual offence there is no "evidence" just the word of the complainant so how are you supposed to prove your innocence when no crime took place.

The current "believe the victims" mantra is doing great damage to the fairness of the justice system. I know from our own case ( which I obviously cannot go into details about as it is on going) that there is no attempt to look at the defence of such an allegation. I was present in the house when the alleged offences were committed, yet I have not been interviewed by police, why ? Police only seem to want to build a case they are not interested in truth, they haven't even taken our computers to ascertain whether my husband has an interest in this area. I wish they had as we are totally clean.

Back to the middle ages it is then. All is missing is the ducking stool and the torture to extract confessions. Although the mental torture is still present. Most people accused of this particular crime do not receive a fair trial as they are all prejudged by the public and the media before hand. A disgusting state of affairs.
