And Thankyou Lookout. I make no pretension to knowing the answer.
I merely resorted to google and Hey Presto, all was revealed.

I shall forthwith ask google to come up with the missing telephone log which Hartley is hiding.

It appears he is playing the racial Punjabi colour game of Jekyll 'n Sikh. (something to hide)

Campion,,I would never have thought to look that one up,as I thought it was just peculiar to my dad and one of his many little quips. A bit like yourself,,,,very entertaining.

Now our Hartley is a different kettle of fish altogether. Like a schoolboy hiding his sweets. I bet he can peel an orange in his pocket. ;D ;D ;D

I had a look in my files. Nothing I'm afraid. Tell you the truth I don't remember anything about it.

V apt expression, Lookout.
I have looked up uk.answers.yahoo, which says:-

"People who can peel an orange in their pocket are very tight-fisted, and give nothing away."

The best answer to this was adjudged to be by Capt Midnight (I.e. 'G').
'I can say' that he said:- GOLLY NO, BUT I can MANAGE BANANAS pmsi

This will result in you going 'bananas' since there are some 17 meanings of the mnemonic 'PMSI'?

PS This rare talent will be most useful to Hartley No Bits in his 'moon-lighting' at the Preserve factory just up the road from Tolleshunt Darcy.

Is this a reference to Hartley's preference for 'Loafer' footwear?

Hi Grahame  wonder what concrete evidence against Jeremy Bamber darcyanon found I know he was convicted in a Court of Law with two Jury members not being convinced. As far as Julie was concerned she did not have a good track record for honesty and had so much to gain i.e. not being charged for the criminal offences she committed and a £25.000 payout from the newspaper the silencer evidence IMO was unsound as was the whole Trial.  Why was so much evidence not disclosed and destroyed this is what concerns me the most. We all as individuals perceive things differently but IMO the odds are on Unfair Trial :'(

Hello Susan. I didn't say I had concrete evidence of Jeremy's guilt, just that I hadn't read anything that pointed to Sheila. I would of thought it quite possible that Julie Mugford signed a deal with the NOW, but the proof is probably long gone.

I agree that upbringing and environment does have a bearing on a childs' future. Stability being the most important of all.
Where there are two parents,,and one is " unstable " then it's the turn of the other parent to retain a balance.
This would have been difficult for the Bambers on account of Nevilles' demanding work,so the onus was on June in her task of bringing up two children when she was already mentally fragile.
I can't even think how the adoptions came about. Whether it was because her family had children,,whether she was lonely when Neville was farming,,,whether she thought it was a right for women to have children,,,whether it was that she wouldn't allow her own infertility to get in the way. We don't,,and will never know.

Nevilles' view would have been different in that if a boy came along, then he would see him as a farmer like himself and so would prepare him for the future.
Neville possibly also suggested the private schools to give the children a better start in life,,and the boarding would give June the break that she obviously needed.

Girls invariably behave like their mothers in lots of ways,,and Sheila would have picked up on Junes' problems from an early age,and would have developed a nervous disposition which would have shown itself in future years. I'm sure that Sheila wondered at times what was happening to herself, poor girl.
Sheila was unsettled at school,,possibly because of an inner confusion of being away from the security of home, and freedom on the farm. I don't think Sheila was a girl that could,or would tolerate being out of her comfort zone,,and would imagine that her behaviour was somewhat trying at times. Sheila did what Sheila wanted to do,,,your normal, wilful child ( who are difficult to rear ) and unless a mothers instinct kicks in,,then you see the child as one who is badly-behaved.
June didn't have that motherly instinct,,which is obviously so important if you want to get to know your child, and their reasons for being wilful and frustrated,as half the time it's a mark of sadness which a child can't always explain like an adult can.
There are some mothers who are " made " for the job,,and there are others who aren't.

Will do.  I suspect it will be "Just the two of us"  :) but hey ho twos company, threes a crowd  :)

Do WE want to keep going over the same stuff re SoC which is notoriously difficult to draw any conclusions from given the way the SoC was treated in the initial stages of the investigation ie not a SoC but 4 murders/1 suicide.  Most fair minded people would agree at the very least JB's trial was totally unfair but that is history and we have to work with now.  Now is going round in circles with stuff that has been pored over for nearly 3 decades or considering the significant scientific advances in the understanding of attachment and neglect on the developing brains of babies and young children.  This sets JB and SC apart and with professional help might help us to understand what was going on in SC's mind.  If Michael Tucker QC and Michael Duck QC thought there was sufficient mileage in raising the bible at appeal ie trying to interpret the open pages to understand SC's mind surely this is even more important?  Along with adoption psychology and reunions?
Hi NN,re: interpretation of the open pages of the bible,I was reading PSALM 52 the other evening (as you know I have the exact same bible),this Psalm is on the opposite page to the bloodstain/handprint. I have to say I was really very shocked when I read it. It appears to sum up how Sheila described her feelings towards June, how Junes words were harsh and hurt her and how SC believed June had the Devil in her and needed cleansing. I recommend that you read it  :)
