It has emerged that MI5 and Special Branch covered up the evidence that Cyril Smith was abusing children. My hubby refers to Special Branch as the "cleaners" because they often get sent to dispose of evidence. It would be interesting to know why and how they became involved in illegally disposing of evidence in the Bamber case back in the nineties,when advances in forensic testing just happened to be moving forward?

I say " try " because most things he wasn't allowed to discuss to his wife,let alone the family.

I watched that programme last night and, again, did wonder why Special Branch were at WHF that morning as they only appear to protect people from the Establishment etc.

And of course they destroyed evidence re this case years later.

Hmmm....

It is interesting that the evidence was destroyed just as there was a breakthrough in DNA testing. I suppose it is possible that Sheila's biological father was/is a prominent or public figure and that is why Special Branch hastily disposed of it?

Just before the internet as well it all seems well co ordinated then and still today
