Dodgy David Boutflour, and dodgy trick of silencer...

How could police have possession of a silencer (SBJ/1) for over a month, before the finder of it reported it to police - meet David Boutflour, the prosecutions magician...

Boutflour does not contact police by telephone until the 12th September 1985, to report find of silencer in gun cupboard, as a result of Ann Eaton handing a silencer over to DC Oakey on the previous day (11th September 1985)...

So, how could police have already submitted the silencer twice to the lab' before Ann Eaton handed over the silencer to DC Oakey on 11th September 1985?
