I'm sort of implying it...for that is what he says in his statement....I wondered if you could verify it, but you can't... :) :) :)

I really don't know, it sounds quite possible, it would not be unusual. I sense you are leading me somewhere?  ;)

Well I think I have established where the word "cuckoo" comes from? Bamber said once that he thought the name cuckoo that his aunt and uncle called him was a name out of affection, until he found out that it was a derisory name that they had for him. That is the source of the saying.

Statement on bamberbollocks.com - august 2003

"In his website statement he says he now understands that when his uncle and aunt called him "Cuckoo" as a child it was not an affectionate name but a "cruel jibe" against an outsider "entering the family nest and inheriting what they saw as rightfully theirs"

yep Jeremy, am sure they did.....which member of the family told him then?

In post #61, it is noted that the adopted Bamber children were referred to, within the 'extended family' ,as 'CUCKOOS.
It is considered unlikely that the perpetrator (of this despicable reference of parentage), would have explained the true meaning of the appelation- cuckoos,. to the children themselves. It is recorded that he used the description - 'bastard'...
To quote - '  Which member of the family told him(them)?', is it possible that Steve uk knows the answer to this posit?
It must be considered that the answer to this may well be the 'Third Cuckoo'., to whit the mysterious Betty Howie(nee Bunting) who was brought up in Gran Speakman's household.  She lived in Goldhanger, very convenient for visiting and helping the Bamber household. IMHO it would be she who kindly put them au fais with the consequences of ignorance of this abominable epithet.

Betty thought it complete rubbish. Asked her about it several years ago. When I first mentioned it she looked at me like I was mad. Her and Pammy great friends you see. Betty is possibly moaner of the year, so if she had known or heard this, she would have moaned about it! lol.
Why do you describe her as mysterious?
I'm sorry Campion, but I do not believe it. I never heard RB ever swear, let alone call Bamber the Bastard.

In actual fact Vic I am informed by others that it was general knowledge amongst the locals that Robert Boutflour often called him that.

Also I have found that website quite well researched myself and is a mine of true information.

Darcy Just ask around. But apparently according to one local who knows the Boutflours it was a well know tern used by RWB in reference to Bamber?

For the benefit of non locals, the point I am making here, is that RB lived 30 miles from WHF, so I am curious as to what locals Grahame refers as informing him of what RB used to call Bamber.

RB never lived, or worked anywhere near WHF.

Call me intransigent, that is one's prerogative, but I still have no desire to converse with someone who asks me if I THINK HE IS AN IDIOT.

Some did testify Andrea but of course their testimonies were and are ignored. Anyway it was not something that was considered important at the time as with so many other things. But apparently according to this local it was widely known to be a term commonly used by RWB in reference to Bamber.

i In reply to Andrea's post - Any supportive statements of locals et al, not having been sought, or else ignored by the chief statement taker/ investigator, DS SB Jones, are conspicuous in their absence. In  particular I would name the then landlord of The Chequers, Mr Trevor Jones, who surely believed JB TO BE INNOCENT.

That being the case,Lugg,,then I'm surprised that Jeremy stayed as level-headed as he did,,,but that's what a good education does.
I'm disgusted that anyone can speak like that against another,,,whether there's a reason or not. It just shows that person up for what they are,,,and I would immediately have a low opinion of them.
I can imagine if Jeremy had got wind of the name-calling,,he'd have gone all out to increase his arrogance just to further annoy. For that,I wouldn't have blamed him either. I'd have done the same myself.
A heck of a lot of resentment lies behind all this.

Vic all the farmers knew each other around that  district. I knew a lot of them myself and I don't live there either.
