Undecided!!
« on: February 19, 2011, 06:34:PM »
So I'm new to the forum, I've read lots of posts some plausible some not so!

I'm in agreement that the police operation was flawed and he clearly did not receive a fair trial..... But it doesn't make him innocent it just to me means his conviction was unsafe and he DESERVES a fair trial! You just can't condemn a man to life in prison after some of the shoddy police work that has come to light!

Maybe a retrial would prove he didn't do it maybe it wouldn't but it's surely about time it was sorted out!

Me I'm in the fence! I've got a 3 way opinion!

1. He's innocent, nothing at all to do with him and he deserves to be released.
2. Guilty as hell shoddy police work aside he did it
3. Didn't pull the trigger himself but certainly knows more than he's letting.

As I say just my observations and they don't mean anything in the scheme of things but thought I'd share them!

To be honest my gravest fear would be that he got released and then we found out he did do it. BUT even then he's still served longer than people who have carried out crimes just as awful!

I'm repeating myself but my opinion is shoddy police investigation or corruption aside it still doesn't mean he's innocent. Many a guilty man has walked free in a technicality before!

Welcome to the madhouse Joolz!

You're up to speed very quickly. Think you've summed it up for a lot of us.

Thankyou!

I've just got strong views that proving police carried out a bad investigation is one thing, proving innocence beyond a doubt is another!

Hi Joolz,
Welcome!
I too, have been dragged into this strange, strange case,
via the discussions going on here!
No-one could have written it as a book or a script!
The more you read about it, the more it sucks you in.
I am totally undecided at this point.
But it's the strangest case I have ever heard of.

Hi! Yes it certainly sucks you in!

I'd heard about it and had a little bit of awareness but it was only when researching another killer (Robert maudsley) that I delved deeper into this case!

It certainly has caught my interest! Just when I'm swayed one way I read something else and change my mind!

Suppose nobody except him can say 100% what his involvement if any he had!

If he is innocent then it's tragic that he's spent so long in prison. Would be even more tragic if he did do it and had got away with it though!

Joolz, I think at this point, even if he did do it he has
certainly paid for it to some extent with many years
of his life spent behind bars.
A friend was chatting with me about J.B's 25 year sentence
being changed to a whole life Tarrif and remarked that if
Jeremy Bamber and the case were not so famous he would probably be out by
now anyway!
My friend said that even worse murders are done than this one and the convicted
killers are freed!
The question is does he still pose a threat to others?
When you have the relatves who inherited the money and property
all saying they are terrified of his ever being released and Julie Mugford saying
she is afraid even in Canada.
Then you have J.B saying that all he wants to do is be able to sit on a beach in
Dorset and go to a Supermarket! ???

Oh yeh I fully agree!

What I meant was it would have been more tragic if he had done it and NEVER served time.

I'm not making light if the fact that an innocent man may have spent  most of his life behind bars, far from it

Just think on the whole the police and courts get it right more than they get it wrong!

No getting away from the fact he deserves a retrial at the very least!

The reason he received the life tariff are the details of the crime.

Much maligned Wikipedia actually has a good article, including the criteria.

5 murders, including children, meant it was automatically included in the round-up.

I do not blame JB for reacting badly, but I am also concerned that this caused him to fight to clear his name, rather than the conviction per se. There was mention in the Guardian article (I think) of JB having expected to serve 9-10 years,  and should have been free 15 years ago.

That's what I find most upsetting about the whole situation

Two innocent boys died that day killed it seems by either their mother or their uncle .

Their poor dad must have suffered more than any of us will ever know.

I just find it so hard to believe that a mother could kill her children I know she had mental health problems but still to shoot your own babies is beyond belief.

I also find it strange that they were shot, it seems more execution style than the act of a deranged woman.

if sheila did kill the children then its known as an altruistic killing, where the mother belives that by killing them she is doing it for the best. if shiela is responsible she didnt do it out of hate, she feared they were going to be taken from her, so therefore in her mind killing them then herself they could be together forever. if she was in the grip of a psychosis thats how maybe her thoughts were playing out.

It's strange that the child-killer thing isn't mentioned much. The emphasis is usually on Sheila when this crime is talked about.

Yes it is odd because it's the most disturbing thing about the whole case to me!

I wonder if the killings had taken place more recently what the conclusion would be all the forensic tests available now would surely have meant there would be no doubt about who carried out the murders.

yeah, forensic techniques have advanced somewhat since 1985
